PlayStation Vita’s holiday lineup is looking better now that E3 has come and gone, and Ubisoft is itching to play a big role in the eventual success it perceives for the platform. Speaking to IGN, Ubisoft’s senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key expressed his company’s love for the handheld and how excited they are to be bringing core AAA franchises to portable gamers.
Speaking directly towards Vita’s potential, Key declared, "It’s a really good platform and we’ve always liked it. The way it’s designed, it’s a beautiful piece of hardware. It’s got cool features that you can’t get anywhere else . . . Assassin’s Creed, we believe, is the right type of game for that system." Still, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified also heading to Vita this winter, one might think Ubisoft would be worried about the sales potential of its beloved stealth franchise alongside the industry’s biggest IP. Not so, says Key: "Assassin’s Creed III is not the only big Vita game coming this holiday, and I think that’s a good thing. We’re actually very happy that there’s another big Vita game coming for Christmas from a competitor because we think that will raise all boats. It’s going to generate a lot of interest in the Vita this holiday season."
Thankfully, Ubisoft doesn’t plan to stop there. The publisher wholeheartedly believes in supporting Vita with its biggest franchises, which is great news for early buyers jonesing for new experiences. "We’re happy to support any cool new hardware system out there," Kay proclaimed. "Assassin’s Creed is exactly the type of brand that needs to go on there because we need to put our best stuff on that system.”
