Original Story – It looks like Ubisoft will be announcing two VR games later today at Oculus Connect, one based on the Assassin’s Creed franchise and the other reviving Splinter Cell. But, based off of a leaked press release, it doesn’t look like those games will be coming to PSVR, at least at launch.
In what appears to be a leaked press release from the Spanish website Vandal (found by ResetEra) they mention that Ubisoft will announce both games, which are developed by Red Storm Entertainment, in collaboration with Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Düsseldorf, and Ubisoft Mumbai. The games appear to be developed from the ground up for Oculus platforms, with quotes from the developer particularly praising Oculus and the technology Facebook have.
Elisabeth Loverso from Red Storm Entertainment states “We are always exploring new ways to leverage technology to create memorable gaming experiences. Oculus’ next-generation hardware will allow us to bring the worlds of Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell to life in a new way for fans. These games will take full advantage of Oculus technology to deliver immersive and emotional experiences that gamers don’t. they will be able to experience the same anywhere else.”
For now, it seems like these games will be Oculus exclusives, but that doesn’t mean it won’t come to PSVR at all. Previous Oculus exclusive titles have come to the platform, with Vader Immortal recently releasing for PSVR. However, there are still a number of Oculus VR games that haven’t made the jump to PSVR, such as the upcoming Medal of Honor and Insomniac’s Stormland. We will have to wait and see if these titles do indeed make the jump to Sony’s VR headset.
Oculus Connect takes place later today.
