UEFA EURO 2012 is a digital download, players must own FIFA 12

Good news for FIFA 12 owners but bad news for those who just wanted to pick up EA Sports’ latest football title this summer: UEFA Euro 2012 will not be available as a standalone title, but will be a digital expansion pack for those who own FIFA 12.

Set to launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on April 24, UEFA Euro 2012, EA has released some details today, confirming all 53 official UEFA teams will be playable across eight stadiums, and a live service will issue challenges to players based on what’s happening in the tournament.

A new Expedition Mode looks set to replace the standard career mode, allowing players to manage and customise teams and compete against other European nations.

An Origin account and a FIFA 12 online pass is required to access the live options on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will go on sale priced £15.99, 1800 MS Points and 2500 FIFA Points on PC.

What do you think of EA’s plan to go down the digital download route?
