The director behind the upcoming Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation has revealed a scene in the action flick was inspired by a sequence in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Speaking in a Q&A on Twitter, Christopher McQuarrie was quizzed about the scene in which Tom Cruise’s character is seeing clinging precariously to the side of a plane as it takes off the runway.
McQuarrie said that not only was the scene a group effort, but directly quoted Uncharted as inspiration for the nail-biting sequence.
The scene in question in Drake’s Deception is of course the scene where we find Nate hanging onto a cargo net at the back of the plane. This sequence also mirrors something similar to the James Bond film, The Living Daylights, in which Timothy Dalton’s Bond is grappling with an enemy while hanging out the back of a cargo plane.
Indeed, it seems Hollywood has a lot to owe the Uncharted series, with J.J. Abrams stating that Uncharted 2’s intro is the ‘best’ he’s ever seen across any medium.
