Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has announced on Twitter that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has gone gold, meaning development is now complete and the game is on track for its release on May 10, 2016.
The hotly anticipated PlayStation 4-exclusive has seen a number of delays over the past couple of years, so the news will no doubt come as a relief to eager fortune hunters. Originally due out in 2015, Nate’s final adventure was then pushed to March 18 of this year, before being delayed to late April and finally, May.
Set three years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Uncharted 4 reunites protagonist Nathan Drake with his brother, Sam, who was previously thought to have perished in an earlier mission. Teaming up with Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan, the trio embark on a globe-trotting hunt for a legendary pirate treasure, which leads them to a mysterious island around Madagascar.
Uncharted 4 features a number of gameplay improvements over previous entries, such as enhanced stealth mechanics, improved melee encounters and larger environments to explore. Furthermore, the multiplayer component has been completely overhauled, giving players access to AI-controlled partners and mystical elements that act as deterrents against enemies.
Naughty Dog has confirmed that Uncharted 4 will be the last entry in the 21-million selling franchise to feature Drake. However, the California-based studio has at least one more title in the works to see a release on PS4, though what this is remains a mystery.
