Naughty Dog has revealed that the tumultuous relationship between Uncharted: The Lost Legacy heroines Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross can spill into various gameplay sequences.
Speaking with the PlayStation Blog, the game’s director, Shaun Escayg said that gamers may experience more help from their partner if they happen to be seeing eye-to-eye at the time. However, if they’ve got into a ruck recently, your companion may abandon you during heated moments.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy gameplay affected by relationships
“One area that we’re really proud of is the ‘spilling’ of narrative into gameplay,” he said. “If the characters are doing well – if they’re having a good time and bonding – then gameplay is at its most efficient: you’re fighting and Nadine is there kicking some ass. If the characters are at odds, though, you may have more difficulty. Your partner may be upset with you, may leave you – abandon you – may go do her own thing.”
Escayg went on to say that the California-based developer found this particularly exciting to implement, as it’s “always trying to blur the line between cut scene, in-game, and gameplay.”
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is scheduled for release on August 22, 2017 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. While the game is the final entry in the series from Naughty Dog for the foreseeable future, it hasn’t ruled out the possibility of making a new title down the line.
Originally conceived as single-player DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Lost Legacy soon evolved into a full-fledged action-adventure game. Naughty Dog initially toyed with the idea of including other characters in the game, such as Victor Sullivan and Charlie Cutter, though a cameo by Nathan Drake was never on the cards.
Speaking of Nate, Naughty Dog has said that the series can continue to exist without a starring role from everyone’s favorite cheeky treasure hunter, so we may end up getting a Sully-centric adventure after all.
