Universal puts BioShock film on hold

According to Variety, the forthcoming movie adaptation of BioShock has run into a bit of a pickle, with the project having been put on hold following Universal Pictures raised concerns over the film’s budget.

The film had already entered pre-production stages, though things have grind to a halt after Universal wasn’t too keen on the movie’s budget, reported to weigh in at a whopping $160 million.

“We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit,” said director Gore Verbinski. “We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern.”

Still, the good news is that Verbinski is obviously keen on the project – he turned down the opportunity to direct a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean flick in favour of having a crack at BioShock.
