While Sony has yet to announce the PS Plus Essential May 2025 free games, it appears that teen horror outing Until Dawn may be one of the freebies that will be available to members early next month.
Key art taken from the PlayStation Plus tab detailing monthly games clearly shows a banner for Until Dawn, although right now it’s not known if this is the original PS4 version from 2015 or last year’s PS5 remaster. The timing would make sense, as the Until Dawn movie has just come out, so what better way to drum up hype than have the game it’s based on as a free PS Plus title?

Until Dawn was originally released for the PS4 in August 2015 and follows a group of young adults as they fight for survival against a malevolent force stalking them in a remote mountain lodgings. The PS5 and PC versions arrived in October 2024, and add a wealth of technical advancements, including improved character models and lighting, as well as a new ending and additional collectibles. You can read our review of the remaster here.
While the movie version of Until Dawn takes the game’s name and is set in the same universe, it isn’t a direct adaptation of the source material. Rather, it includes its own cast of characters and expands on the series’ lore, while still maintaining the look and feel of the games, and includes an appearance by Peter Stormare as Dr. Hill.
