[UPDATE] Life Is Strange: Before the Storm Platinum Trophy Requires Mission From Deluxe Edition

UPDATE: Square Enix has stepped forward to clarify the situation: "This was a mistake on our side and not our intention to gate the Platinum trophy via the optional Bonus Episode in the deluxe sku. We’ve already started speaking to the first parties about rectifying this."

Original:

While gamers are used to special editions of games, pre-order incentives, microtransactions and the like, it seems we might be getting our first PlayStation Trophy wherein it’s required that you own a different version of the game rather than the standard one. In case the headline wasn’t a dead giveaway, Life Is Strange: Beyond the Storm Trophies will only let you earn up to the Gold one with the highest achievement — the much-coveted Platinum — requiring the Deluxe Edition in order to be able to even earn it.

The final Gold Trophy in Beyond the Storm needs you to complete the mission "Farewel," but that mission is only available with the Deluxe Edition of the game and not in the standard version. If you can’t earn that final Gold Trophy, you won’t be able to — you guessed it — earn the Platinum for a 100 percent completion rate.

This might not be a super big thing in the grand scheme of things, but let’s hope this isn’t the start of something more sinister. I wouldn’t be surprised if Square Enix "fixes" this little issue if the fan backlash is big enough.

Speaking of which, you can watch the Life Is Strange: Beyond the Storm Deluxe Edition trailer here.
