[UPDATE] Mass Effect 3 announced, confirmed for PS3

UPDATE:

Electronic Arts’ Patrick Buechner has now confirmed via Twitter that Mass Effect 3 will indeed be released for PlayStation 3 (as well as Xbox 360 and PC, naturally) as previously rumored.

“Mass Effect 3 is coming to Xbox 360, PC and….. PS3!" he wrote.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

BioWare’s officially announced Mass Effect 3 at the VGAs overnight, confirming the hotly anticipated sci-fi sequel will be hitting store shelves in late 2011.

If that wasn’t enough, the developer also lifted the veil on a debut trailer for the game, which all but confirms the series will be making the transition to earth, specifically ‘ol Blighty – there’s a chap armed with a sniper rifle camped out in the dilapidated clock face of London’s Big Ben, after all.

Platforms have yet to be announced, though the game was outed yesterday on EA’s official store and was listed down for the usual suspects – including PlayStation 3, we might add. Furthermore, with Mass Effect 2 hitting Sony’s black behemoth in January, we see no reason why hero Shepherd’s latest shenanigans won’t be getting the same treatment.

But that’s enough chatter. Take a butcher’s at the positively gorgeous teaser below.
