[UPDATE] Sega releases new Bayonetta trailer

UPDATE:

On closer inspection, this appears to be the same trailer Sega screened at the Tokyo Game Show a few weeks back. Sorry about that – PSU’s news droid has been sent straight to bed with no supper.

It is, however, a direct feed version of the trailer with no irritating Japanese subtitles, so we’re sure it deserves a second glance. Go on, you know you want to.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

Sega’s just knocked out another Bayonetta trailer, available to view here courtesy of VG247. It’s simultaneously one of the most obscene things we’ve laid eyes on and also one of the most dementedly brilliant. Not a good fix for a Monday morning, indeed.

The trailer cobbles together snippets of pre-rendered material from this summer’s Game Convention in Leipzig with some smokin’ hot gameplay footage. On the few occasions you aren’t staring directly into the lady protagonist’s nether regions, you might notice strong points of comparison with Capcom’s Devil May Cry series: third-person arena combat, stupidly grandiose special moves and mid-air combos.

Something pretty spectacular happens to Ms. Lady Protagonist’s hair at the climax, too. We wonder which conditioner she uses.

Bayonetta is being developed by PlatinumGames, a high-powered developer formed by veterans of the DMC games, Okami and Viewtiful Joe, and is down for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late 2009.
