Valve details Steam integration in Portal 2 for PS3

Doug Lombardi, Valve’s vice president of marketing, today revealed a bevy of new details surrounding the company’s integration of its Steam network platform in Portal 2 for PlayStation 3.

The first title to support Steam on a console, Portal 2 for PS3 "offers cross-platform matchmaking, gameplay, friends, chat, and achievements, all powered by Steam," wrote Lombardi on the PlayStation Blog. "Steam on the PS3 also saves co-op game progress and single player saved games to the Steam Cloud, enabling players to pick up where they left off on any PlayStation 3."

Well this looks simple…

To access these features, gamers must link their PlayStation Network accounts with their Steam accounts. If you don’t already have a Steam account, you can create one within the game.

Once your accounts are linked, the Steam overlay in Portal 2 allows Steam chat, friend invites, profile viewing, plus status viewing and updating. Steam achievements are earned simultaneously with PSN trophies.

Portal 2 launches this coming Tuesday, April 19, in North America, and two days later, April 21, in Europe.
