Viacom selling Rock Band dev Harmonix

Harmonix, the developer behind the critically acclaimed music simulation franchise Rock Band, is to be sold off, parent company Viacom confirmed today.

While the firm didn’t divulge any specific reason behind the decision, it should be noted that the move comes in light of poor sales of Rock Band 3, which failed to set the charts alight upon its release a few weeks back.

A crying shame too we might add, as the game proved to be an absolute blast to play, as PSU’s Eric Blattberg discovered while dissecting it for review recently.

"Viacom also announced that it plans to sell Harmonix, which developed the Rock Band music video game franchise," said the company. "Accordingly, the Company reclassified the business as a discontinued operation and has recast its results from previous periods to reflect this change."

Stay tuned for more info as it breaks.
