Visceral hopes Dead Space 2 is scarier than original

Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutis has said that developer Visceral Games is hoping that the sequel will surpass its predecessor in terms of scaring the pants off gamers.

Chatting with the folks at PC Zone, Papoutis commented, “It was awesome making Dead Space, it came out of the blue and was well received by critics and fans," adding, "It’s daunting to try and top it."

"In order to be a better game, we need to step our game up in all facets – that’s the visuals, enemy designs, new weapons, tools and mechanics."

As you’d expect, horror also remains a crucial element in crafting the quintessential Dead Space experience, and as a result the developers are hoping Dead Space 2 will be scarier than the original.

"Certainly horror is a big part of that," he continued. "So when we’re done with it, I hope we can say that it’s scarier. That’s a goal for us."

Dead Space 2 is due out on PS3, PC and 360 in early 2011.
