Need a game that pits sci-fi marine heroes against legions of unrelenting space Orks? Then keep an eye out for intergalactic shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine later this year, with THQ today confirming that the game will ship in August 2011.
Playing as Captain Titus from the Ultramarine segment of Space Marines, the Relic-developed third-person shooter casts the player as humanity’s final hope in the intergalactic conflict against the ominous Orks. Despite the Warhammer 40k universe being featured in multiple PC titles, Space Marine marks the first outing for the franchise on the PlayStation 3.
Relic has confirmed that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine will include The Choas, a race of creatures from a parallel universe known as The Warp. According to Space Marine game director Raphael van Lierop, The Chaos race will offer a “fresh challenge” for players.
"We think Chaos will really excite fans of the game," Lierop told CVG. "We know people have been wondering what tricks we have up our sleeves in terms of other enemies in the game, we’ve already established with our RTS side of 40K that it’s about fighting more than one enemy and I think that with Space Marine we’ve focused on talking about the Orks so far."
"With Chaos we’re able to add a new twist to the game for players, giving them an enemy that is much more devious, much more dangerous in small numbers and one that is going to force the player to be think, be a little quicker on their toes and just provide a fresh challenge for them in the game" he added.
Outside of a few snippets of information, only a handful of screenshots and teaser videos have been released on the game thus far. With THQ planning to ship the game in August, it wouldn’t be surprising if the game receives a lot of attention at E3 in June.
