Wizarding World RPG Hogwarts Legacy Has Sold 40 Million Copies Worldwide

Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games have announced that Hogwarts Legacy has sold 40 million units worldwide since its launch in February 2023.

Hogwarts Legacy takes place around 100 years before the events of Harry Potter, and sees players taking on the role of a student Hogwarts and taking part in classes, learning spells, befriending fellow students and battling against nefarious wizards and goblins. The open-world is ripe for exploration, with the castle itself fully recreated as depicted in the films, as well as surrounding forests, crypts, Hogsmede and more areas all packed with things to see and do.

Earlier this year, it was reported that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development at Avalanche Software, and it was also claimed that a ‘refreshed version’ of the original game was in the pipeline. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier previously referred to this new version of Hogwarts Legacy as a Director’s Cut that would include additional content.

However, Bloomberg stated in March that a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy and the Director’s Cut release had been cancelled as a result of restructuring within Warner Bros.

Hogwarts Legacy is available for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. You can read our full review here.
