A new report from Jason Schrier reveals that Wizards Of The Coast, the team behind the prolific table-top game Dungeons & Dragons has cancelled “at least five” unannounced video game projects.
This news comes as its parent company Hasbro is experiencing some financial struggles, though Wizards Of The Coast remains that it is “committed to using digital games,” according to a spokesperson.
The report also states that almost 15 people will lose their jobs as a result of the cancellations, though there will be opportunities for them to re-apply to new positions.
According to the same spokesperson, Wizards Of The Coast has “made some changes to our long-term portfolio to focus on games which are strategically aligned with developing our existing brands and those which show promise in expanding or engaging our audience in new ways.”
Wizards Of The Coast truly has a wealth of source material to pull from for the basis of a new game. Even though this actively scales back the studios investment into video games, the potential of it all makes it tough to believe we’ve seen the last of the studio’s game development efforts.
