Insider Gaming is reporting that XDefiant is in a poor state right now thanks to declining player numbers, with develop Ubisoft San Francisco allegedly having until the end of Season 3 to turn things around.
XDefiant launches in May 2024 and surpassed one million unique players in its first 2.5 hours, setting a record for a Ubisoft title in the process. Within one week, the game eclipsed the eight million player milestone. However, things haven’t been going so well since then, and unless player numbers bounce back, XDefiant risks losing post-launch support.

A source told Insider Gaming that XDefiant is struggling to reach 20,000 concurrent players across all platforms, with another claiming, They [Ubisoft] would probably be happy with that number,” indicating that the player count is now much lower.
The report states that the team is understandably tense and anxious as a result of the declining numbers, with sources claiming that more layoffs are likely to happen. Right now, the future of the game hinges on the success of Season 3, although sources feel pessimistic about its future, particularly as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 arrives between Season 2 and 3.
