The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has confirmed that the Ace Combat 7 trailer showcase at the PlayStation Experience 2015 was fully rendered in real-time on PlayStation 4.
According to the publication, the air combat title is around 20 percent complete, so it’s still some way off from release. However, it’s clear that Project Aces is utilising the PS4 to produce some impressive visuals; clouds are now objects in 3D space, and players can now target and reach one if they see fit.
As mentioned at PSX 2015, the game will support PlayStation VR, a feature which the developer has said is a good match for the sequel. Ace Combat 7 is powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 and uses trueSKY technology. This latest instalment in the venerable dog fighting series will include both a campaign mode and multiplayer component.
"It’s no small feat for any video game franchise to thrive over two decades; ACE COMBAT’s legacy lies in its tremendous quality and deep storytelling. With ACE COMBAT 7, we are planning on dominating the skies once again and delivering an unparalleled experience thanks to the PlayStation®4 technologies and to our team experience with their know-how!" said publisher Bandai Namco Games.
Ace Combat (originally known as Air Combat in the U.S. and Europe) has a long-standing history with the PlayStation brand, with the first game launching on PSOne back in 1995. Two more sequels were released for Sony’s grey box of tricks, before the franchise later moved to the PS2 in 2001. More recent games have launched on multiple formats, including Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, which was released for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
