After showcasing character designer Tetsuya Nomura’s new “after years” illustrations of Tidus and Yuna during yesterday’s Dissidia Final Fantasy NT broadcast, Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase spent some time discussing the possibility of a Final Fantasy X-3 with the fans in attendance.
Unfortunately for those hoping to see a third chapter in the decade-and-a-half-old story, it won’t be releasing anytime soon; if at all.
Yoshinori Kitase and Square Enix Aren’t Working on Anything at the Moment
When asked by actress and Final Fantasy X fan Marika Kouno if Square Enix had ever considered continuing Tidus/Yuna’s story via another spin-off, sequel, or some kind of DLC, Kitase responded by saying that, although various members of the team have expressed excitement at the possibility of making Final Fantasy X-3 in the past, they simply haven’t had the time.
Currently, Final Fantasy X’s latest story is recorded in the voice drama for the HD Remaster, but back when we decided to include the voice drama the staff was really excited about the thoughts of ‘Don’t you want to make Final Fantasy X-3?’ However, most of them have been busy and so we haven’t been able to make it happen.
Which would suggest that, should Square Enix find itself at a loose end anytime soon, it might consider returning to Spira. Or at least it would have done, if not for Kitase’s closing comments:
For now, I hope fans can look at this illustration and just wonder ‘I wonder what would happen in Final Fantasy X-3?’
I have a few ideas, myself. Although none of them end all that well for Tidus.
Anyway, head to the top of this article if you fancy checking out the aforementioned illustrations (which comes to us courtesy of Siliconera) and be sure to let us know what Final Fantasy X-3 would look like if you were directing it.
