Ys X: Nordics is winging its way to PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in Japan in 2023, Falcom has announced, which will also form part of the series’ 35th anniversary.
The new game is set in the northern sea Obelia Bay, which is formed of countless islands of various sizes. Here, fresh from his adventures in the Ancient Kingdom of Ys, Adol Christin comes into contact with Normans, maritime people who inhabit this new land.
Meanwhile, the combat system that has been utilised up to Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has been completely revamped, with a new Cross Action allowing players to battle using two modes according to the situation at hand. Solo Mode sees players controlling one character with the aid of automatic attacks and partner support, while Combination Mode sees you guiding both characters simultaneously to battle fearsome enemies during back-and-forth combat.
Additionally, Ys X: Nordics allows you to control a ship for the first time in the series. Explore vast oceans using sea maps as your guide and engage in naval battles against enemy ships in this new feature that adds to “the joy of adventure” that the series is known for. Other new systems include the special ability “Mana Action,” which significantly expands the degree of freedom on fields and in dungeons.
Ys X: Nordics is due out in 2023 for PS4, PS5 and Switch.
