Zombie Apocalypse brings back arcade feel

Zombies never go out of style — at least that’s what Konami and Nihilistic are hoping when Zombie Apocalypse graces the PlayStation Network next month. The title is meant to take gamers back to the dark arcades of their childhoods, with fast action and tons of gore, explains John Slavin, Nihilistic designer.

"We wanted to strip off the woes of increasingly complex modern mega-games, and retreat back into the world of dark arcades and late-night movie rentals that was our childhood in the 80’s and 90’s," he posted on the PlayStation Blog.

The game is a homage to classic "big box" horror films—a real "stomach turner," Slavin says. The game features four unlikely heroes in Left 4 Dead style. One character is inspired by the original film Night of the Living Dead.

The game features full four-player local and online multiplayer, 55 intense levels, and unlockable modes.

"Our hope is to have created something that arcade fans, zombie fans, and even the casual player looking for a quick fix or some bloody multiplayer fun will enjoy and keep coming back to," Slavin states.
