Castlevania is generally about kicking ass. In this installment, gamers grab the whip as Richter Belmont as they seek to destroy Dracula. Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles also includes unlockable versions of the Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night games, delivering incredible gameplay and revamped graphics of the most beloved games for next generation fans.
The Dracula X Chronicles is quite possibly the best game to date from the saga. In fact, Chronicles is not just one, but three good Castlevania games revamped for a next generation portable device.
Stage one is whimsically called “Dinner of Flames” and PSU got to join in on this lovely feast for the hands. The level opens with the world in ruins, with the countryside on fire and smoke everywhere as a skeleton approaches you. As the skeleton comes, you get on with your Richter mojo and take out your whip to punish those who dare approach you.
The original gameplay facets are still present. You see candles, and whip them for hearts. You see floating bad guys, you whip them to survive, and you whip collapsible walls for holy water and other goodies.
The special weapons allowed us to breeze past the first level. We beat skeletons and eventually proceeded through a brick building filled with falling embers. But once we got outside, things were anything but a breeze. Blocking our path was an enormous dragon-like creature, and we started dodging it and using the holy water and all we could pull out. As the rampage continues, the demo ends suddenly. Blast!
