3.80 update allows remote play of all PSone titles

The PSP’s firmware update to 3.80 in combination with the PS3’s update to 2.10 allows owners of both to play all PS One games via remote play on the PSP. This feature went largely unnoticed, as Sony did not officially announce it through their update page, listing Internet Radio as the primary "new" feature to be included in the latest system update.

Remote play of PS One titles was not officially mentioned in either update but the existence of the new feature had been confirmed.

The new feature rewards those gamers that decided to keep their old PS One titles around the house as they can now play them on their PSP without having to worry about paying extra to download them from the PlayStation Store and then transferring them to their PSP.

But to those that have already purchased PS One titles from the PlayStation Store, the update allows them to those games remotely from the PS3’s hard drive, rather than requiring them to be downloaded to a PSP memory stick.

Compatibility issues remain unknown with regards to specific titles, but users will need to reassign the controls in many games to account for the PSP’s lack of two analog sticks.
