Activision: GHWT was bestselling third-party game in U.S. and Europe

In its quarterly investors call, Activision Blizzard announced that Guitar Hero World Tour was the top-selling third-party title on a dollar basis across all platforms in both the U.S. and Europe. VG247 is listening into the call right now, and although the site didn't specify a time frame, we believe that Activision is referring to sales from the last financial quarter.

The company also claims that it maintains a 55% market share in the (declining) game rhythm genre, and that Guitar Hero World Tour outsold Rock Band by 10 to 1.

We'll have more for you from Activision's earnings call in a moment.

Obviously. GHWT was out in Europe way before RB2 and actually almost before RB even hit european shores. GH is also positioned in people's minds as the only rythm game since it's pretty big and mediatic. Rock Band is a fairly new franchise.

I never expected GH to outsell Rockband by that much, but like the post above said it most likely is due to the fact that Europe received Rockband pretty late.

@3 or pretty much not at all. Microsoft paying to keep EA's Rock Band exclusive to the 360 allowed Guitar Hero time to make a complete band experience. So basicly, Microsoft paved the way for the downfall of Rock Band, in europe atleast.

I would like to see the numbers on GHWT vs. RB from the getgo. Since unlike GHWT, all RB songs are compatible between the 2 games alot of people in the US just bought RB2 disk not the entire bundle. Plus if you factor in the money harmonix made off of DLC the numbers would be skewed completely in the opposite direction. Sounds like Activision have been taking classes in SPIN from MS.

Wow ..... I wasn't expecting that at all. I was kind of hoping that GH's money galging and weak support would come back to bite them in the behind. That is absolutely amazing. I guess I just  hate that RB's effort to attract the masses with their export key and massive support didn't pay off as well as GH's  endless disks with noncompatible dlc idea.I think it sends the industry a message that I can't afford for them to adopt as a practice.
