Are you prepared for Metal Gear Solid 4?

With the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 just a few hours away, I was left wondering what you’re doing to prepare yourself for the release. Are you one of those people who takes on a ritual in order to enjoy and savor the fact you just stood in a line at midnight for the next hot gaming title? Perhaps you’re just one of those gamers that rips the shrink wrap off and throws it into his console for the next 30 days of nothing but gaming heaven. Regardless of if you’re the first or second guy, I'm pretty sure you’re stoked for midnight.
A buddy of mine has a midnight tradition he undergoes every August for Madden as well. He’ll line his gaming room up with anything he can that features the Dallas Cowboys and then pops the title in to bring the atmosphere to life. It looks ridiculous and we joke about it, but that’s his thing and what he enjoys.
Considering this weird ritualistic happening, I got to wondering about how other individuals go about getting ready for a huge midnight release. What better place to find out than our very own forums, where gamers have been discussing this title for what seems like ages. We’ve asked a few members to see what procedures they take before playing that freshly printed title and we’ve included them below for your enjoyment.

“For a game's release, I stock up on tons of Soda. I don’t want to have to get up in the middle of something ground breaking to quench my thirst. Heck, I even take off work (seriously), if I can't get off work, I actually think about quitting. I then invite a few friends over to share the opening experience of that first cinematic.
MAJOR ritual: Call my friends and see if they preordered, if they didn't, I laugh at them and tell them how awesome the game is.” - Alphaboss
“Well recently, I’ve had to undertake a new ritual before gaming. When I get a newly released title everything must be in place and quiet before I play. For example, when I got Uncharted, I waited until we put our boys to bed and then cleaned up the living room. After that, I turned off the lights and removed the game from its case as though it were the center of life, careful not to smudge the back with my fingerprints. I then placed the case on the table next to my ice cold beverage, turned up the volume and started to game.
This is usually when I get a new game. However, it doesn't happen very often due to having unpredictable kids, but hey that’s gaming from a father’s perspective.” - Faceless

“Well, if I’m going to do an all night session, I have my mini-fridge within an arm’s length of me, stocked with 6 cans of Red Bull and I have a large bowl of crisps ready to satisfy my hunger during my gaming binge. I make sure both my controllers and my headset are fully charged before I start playing. I keep my headset charger next me as it only lasts for 3 hours of talk time. This way I can charge it up quickly. Oh yeah, I have to be sat or laying comfortably, but not too comfy because I have fallen asleep in the past.
That pretty much covers it. Food, energy drinks and a comfy situation are all it takes to satisfy my nightlong gaming needs.” – Womble
As for myself, I plan on picking up my LE copy tonight. I’ll listen to the soundtrack on the way home to hype myself up even further, and then just enjoy it for a couple of hours (yeah right!) before I get some sleep.

What I want to know from our readers is; what are you doing to prepare for the long night of gaming ahead? Don’t be shy either, if you’re planning on cosplaying as Solid Snake, sitting on your couch in the dark, and playing until the sun comes up, let us know.

Sadly, I have nothing planned. Go to school, go pick up game afterwards, do homework, sleep. And then some.
I never liked Energy Drinks, all they are is chalk full of glucose, carbs, and caffeine. Nothing else. I can make my own drink for a fraction of what it costs to buy Red Bull, or Amp. -

i'm going to be dropped off and going to be waiing in line from 8:00 p.m. central time to 12:01 a.m. when they let us in. i am hoping i am the first one because i have the limited edition pre-orderd and i am going to ask if i can have the solid snake promo poster. i will hang it up on my wall and then while the install is loading i will set my mountain dew next to me on the table and have one ready for me at all times. also when the install starts going i will use the restroom so i won't have to get up. there is a pause function that will come in handy. right now i am just looking for a new job and still living with my parents and thinking about going to college soon or a trade school. so, for the next 2 days it will be all metal gear solid 4 guns of the patriots. plus i am getting some white castle cheese burgers to help that midnight crave.

the only thing i could call a ritual is refusing point blank to rush through it to finish it...i've waited a loooong time for the and i'm not going to see it over in a matter of hours, i plan to make MGS4 last me at least a month...heck i still ain't finished GTA4...just take my time and enjoy the game...

If I'm getting a major game like MGS or Killzone 2, I'll run by Costco and grab a 24-pack of Monster for $30, then call Pizza Hut and order 2 large pizzas, get home, use the bathroom, and play for as long as my body will let me.

Can't do the midnight release because my parents think its sad.. lol I'll pick it up first thing in the morning, then, I'll have a 30 minute walk ( Ahem... 15 minute run) back home, kick my youngest brother off the PS3 and enjoy a day of MGS4 and possibly a little MGOnline... Maybe I should freeze myself? To make things quicker.....

Heh - this is a really tough day for me - my two favourite gaming franchises ever are MGS and Civilization. Living in Australia, they both get released for the PS3 today, and both are far from short games! However (ducking for cover), I'm going to pick up Civ:Rev, as MGS is guaranteed good sales, while Civ:Rev has picked a pretty tough day to release on! I'm also pretty confident there'll still be plenty of people playing MGO when I pick up MGS4 in a couple of weeks - and the beauty of games is that MGS4 will still be just as good then :)

Sadly, here in Canada, specifically my area, I don't get it 'til tomorrow. I'm really hoping for no line because at the day of GTA-4 release, there was no line, no rush at all for either 360 or PS3. Only two guys came in and bought it lol. Hopefully I'll find the LE edition of MGS-4, even though I pre-ordered SE.

I have played through all of the previous games within the last couple of days, and am currently going to get my limited edition copy. I will then be out of touch with the world until Metal Gear Solid 4 is completed, which will be in one sitting barring food breaks.

I'm gonna go out into my yard, find a snake, eat it raw, shoot fruit out of my neibor's apple trees, evade the cops by hiding in a box for an hour, go pick up the game, come back home, play for an hour, throw up the snake, and then check myself into a hospital.

Actually mine starts the week before the game is released this happens without me even knowing. I completely stop playing games on the console and only turn it on for music or to let people know i'm alive. Then I head over to the PC and read news and then watch movies on HBO ro Max, just finished watching The Deparated and Accepted is just starting. Though I never get a game on a midnight release I'll pick my copy up tomorrow.
