UPDATE: After much debate, we finally selected the winner of the Astro Gaming audio package giveaway. We had more than 230 entries, and we settled on about a dozen of our favorites. We wish we had 230 packages to giveaway, but sadly we only have one.
Before we reveal the winner, we’d like to give a nod to some of our favorite entries. GHOSTthePRO (entry 207) gave us a good chuckle when he talked about putting the headset on his cheating girlfriend’s head, and turning it so high her nickname becomes ‘storm.’ We also really enjoyed steelhorseclub (entry 14) and his idea about Sony implementing a voice emulator to make you sound like Nathan Drake or Laura Croft.
We saw a lot of great entries, but we were most impressed with the following entry:
#202 – Ps3nutcase
1.I would like to first state that PSU may be responsible for any sleeping disorders caused if I do not win these – read on so I can explain:
1 – How would you use the audio gear to enhance your gaming experience?
I am a late night gamer, a Father and Office worker by day, then a PS3-addict at night. My wife and kids are light sleepers which causes some issues. They sleep walk, sleep talk, and have war nightmares due the explosions and gunfire late into the night (Modern Warfare 2). They never seem to realize why they have these dreams. Sometimes my wife or kids will mention some details about their nightmares the night before and I feel responsible for these, especially when their dreams have police sirens in them from my attempts at surviving a 6 star wanted level for a trophy on Grand Theft Auto 4.
This audio gear would enhance my gaming experience because I could continue my nocturnal gaming ways with a clean conscience.
2- Astro Gaming believes the PS3 has a bright future in terms of voice chat. What, if anything, would you like to see changed with Sony’s console in regards to voice chat? Again, be specific.
I think “cross game” chat will be okay and I think the voice quality has seen a lot of improvement.
But mainly I would like to see a new PS3 Exclusive voice chat feature. I would like Sony to develop voice recognition technology that can auto mute players that annoy me. You know, the idiots that use there Playstation Eye mic and have 15 people talking about the weather in the room while they are playing or the “wanna be” DJ who pipes in some Snoop Dogg to the enjoyment of no one. That would be something I would liked changed, maybe Astro Gaming can tackle that one.
Finally, I ask "the powers that be" for this $250 piece of goodness for it will be put to good use!
Congratulations to the winner. We will send an email to the winner using the address supplied at registration. Thanks again to all those who entered, and look for more giveaways in 2010!
