Bethesda calls Fallout 3 previews into doubt

Fallout 3 producer Peter Hines has moved to quash some of the negative feedback that the title received following E3 demonstrations, subtly calling in to question the validity of gameplay impressions based on 30 minutes of exposure.

“Everybody has their reasons why they do or don’t like something, so it’s not really for me to say, ‘That’s a good reason not to like it,’ or, ‘That’s not a good reason not to like it,’” he stated. “You play the game and you see what you think."

"At E3 we let people play the game for a half hour, and if in a half hour you can make up your mind one way or the other, OK. I don’t really get into judging the rightness or wrongness of it. I just give people a chance to play it and they draw their own conclusions.”

All well and good, except merely by mentioning the length of time impressions were based on, the validity of opinion is called into question immediately. Nicely done.

For what it's worth, we're excited by Fallout 3, and we'll be looking ahead to extended playtime in the coming months.

I seems ok. I will wait for the reviews as Bethesda disappointed me with Oblivion. This game has its strong points but still reviews first.

30 minutes is more than enough time to make up your mind about a title,to bad Bethesda can't handle negative criticism about their titles.I wish they were less self rightous than this.

Thats the problem with previews. They are based on a limited hands-on experience and won't help convince people what the game offers if its got a great story etc etc.

Its silly that so-called professionals jump so quick to call judgements on games like this, especially since they are suppose dto be experienced & should know better. But then, Bethseda should also know whether 30mins is going to get the message of the game across.

Its 6 of 1 & half dozen of the other.

Both have been silly , but the previewers should actually know better and take the time limit into account when stating what they saw. Previewers IMO have too much lee-way and too much influence with games. The same can be said for reviewers....

I suggest Bethseda to give more time to a preview if they wish to avoid these issues.

Im not a fan of Oblivion (mostly due to the hack and slash combat system) or normally Bethesda.. but im a very big Fallout fan. So I hope they have managed to do the game justice and respected the fallout universe.. hope there will be a demo! Anyways the previews i have seen has been very good... actually i don't think i have seen one that was bad?
