2K Games has finally announced a firm release date for the hotly anticipated BioShock on PlayStation 3.
The title -- which was hugely successful on Xbox 360 and PC -- will debut on PS3 on October 21 in North America. Fortunately, Europeans will only have to wait three more days until October 24 to get their hands on it as well.
"We are proud to introduce 2K Games' showcase title, BioShock, to an entirely new audience," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K Games. "With the addition of the new Add-On Game Content we are able to extend the award-winning adventure while maintaining the perfect harmony that millions of players around the world have fallen in love with."
BioShock on PS3 won't simply be a port of the Xbox 360 version released last year. It'll feature all-new challenge rooms, as well as Trophy support and all of the downloadable content that has been released for the 360 version. 2K Games used its regional studios as well as Digital Extremes of Dark Sector fame to bring the title to Sony's machine. We'll have a review for you closer to launch.

I originally wasn't interested in this title, however I appreciate the fact that 2kGames has gone out of their way to not simply port the game over to collect another revenue base, but actually make PS3 owners feel like they're getting value for their money by including new features and Trophy support. Trophy support makes it feel like a new, improved release of an already established franchise, rather than a re-release of an old game.

Ugh, too many good games coming out in the fall. Maybe I'll just buy LittleBigPlanet and then get Dead Space, Far Cry 2, and Bioshock (actually, I think I already have that) on PC for fr... um i mean "cheaper".

Bioshock features some of the best art direction in the industry. The atmosphere of rapture is something to behold. It merits Oddworlds sense of grandness and scale. I just hope that 2K Marin managed to port this modern classic. I'll definitely purchase it in october ^_^ too many games out this autumn and not enough time to play them >_>

me personal i wont be buying this game if somebody ask me what i want for Christmas then i might reconsider. i'm not buying it cause i feel like it was made for PS3 for pettiness and to make a few extra dollars. in other words it should've came out in Feb or march not a year and two months later. in October i'm getting LBP & SOCOM. for the months of Oct - Feb i'm buying in house game first

i played this game on the 360 on it was a good game the graphics where ace and the controls where easy but it was to easy even on the hardest setting i understand ps3 is getting a new diffuculty seting but as long as you die and come back to life with out starting the level again it will still be easy to finish so i wont be getting this game which is a shame

The game looks pretty awesome. I like that we get trophy support too. A guy at work was bragging to me how I wouldn't see anything like this for the PS3 but looky here, we have Bioshock for the PS3 with more value for the same price.

I've pretty much resigned myself to purchase only first party releases unless third party games are up to par. To me, this looks like one of those "up to par" games that beckons to me. I applaud 2K for their time and effort.
...and call me what you will, but I love when I see a 360 version and it has that "Only for" descriptor on the front of the box, knowing it's a farce. Da bastids!
