Blu-ray two-year sales figures outperforming DVD

The holiday season must have just ended, because Sony is being provided with great news at every possible turn. If the company isn't reporting increased sales of its PlayStation 3, its soon-to-be standard format Blu-ray is racking up milestones of its own, reportedly outperforming DVD in comparison to its first two years on the market at a rate of 2 to 1.
According to statistics compiled by EngadgetHD and Pali Capital's Richard Greenfield, DVD players achieved 1.2 million players sold over the course of its first two years on retail shelves. However, this number is barely a dent in the estimated 2.5 million Blu-ray players that have been sold within the same life span. Perhaps more impressive is the fact these numbers do not take into consideration the PlayStation 3, which is Blu-ray compatible out of the box.
As stated in the past, Sony has done a marvellous job utilizing its console as a Trojan Horse for its new standard in format preference. It's only a matter of time until every Blockbuster is lined in Blu, and the industry will have Sony to thank for that.

this would be expected... seeing as how dvd players have been out forever, and blu-rays are a new technology. better to see the sales of actual dvds and blu-ray movies, instead of the players.

@3 I'm confused with your comment. The article is talking about the players and not the discs. Also, dvd hasn't been out "forever". It came out in '96, '97. If forever is eleven years then I'd be toooo d**n old to type this. I like the idea that Bluay is doing better than dvd in its startup though. I wonder why everyone is still skeptical about it then. I STILL know people who don't have dvd players, lol.

Try "reading" article again slowly.

I tried to get a blu-ray player for my mother and everytime I go to Best Buy they are sold out. It makes sense, everthing is going digital & HD in February. Peolpe are buying HD TV's might as well get a HD DVD player & since Blu-Ray won the HD DVD war, why not buy it from the company that invented it. Makes since.
