Insomniac Games has announced on BlueSky that Marvel’s Wolverine has gone gold, which means development has now wrapped and the game is locked for its release on September 15, 2026.
“Today, we’re popping claws in celebration… Marvel’s Wolverine has GONE GOLD!,” said the company.
The wait for Logan’s latest video game outing has been a long one, seeing as how Marvel’s Wolverine was announced around five years ago during Sony’s September 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Game director Mike Daly explained earlier this week in an interview that Insomniac announced the title so early as they knew it would be hard to keep it under wraps otherwise.
Elsewhere, the Daly revealed that the development team took inspiration for the upcoming PS5-exclusive title from 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, widely considered to be one of the best video game outings for the character. The team also explained why the game lacks the open-world setting that the Marvel’s Spider-Man games adopted, noting it fits with Logan’s character – he doesn’t really stick around in one place much, after all.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a standalone entry based on the popular anti-hero, telling a self-contained story while sharing continuity with other Marvel worlds established by Insomniac. Players control James ‘Logan’ Howlett, aka Wolverine (played by Liam McIntyre), a mutant with regenerative healing powers and retractable claws that embarks a globe-trotting journey as he brushers shoulders with other iconic characters such as Mystique, Omega Red, and the Sentinels.
