Marvel’s Wolverine Was Announced So Early As Insomniac Knew It Would Be Difficult To ‘Keep A Lid On It’

Insomniac Games announced Marvel’s Wolverine so early as the developer figured it would be difficult to “keep a lid on it,” the game’s director has revealed.

Speaking with TheGamer, Mike Daly commented, “We announced Wolverine very early because we knew it would be very difficult to keep a lid on it.”

We wanted to be able to cast the crew knowing that,” he adds, noting the studio’s slate played a part as well. “Insomniac does take on the very difficult challenge of working on multiple games at once, and we’ve tried to stagger our releases so that the team can help out where they’re needed the most while allowing the other projects to proceed efficiently, which is one aspect of it.”

For those who don’t remember, Marvel’s Wolverine was announced during the PlayStation Showcase during September 2021 alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and we didn’t hear much about the game for a good couple of years. So, it’s been about a five-year wait when all’s said and done.

Speaking in the same interview, Daly revealed that the development team took inspiration from the one of the better Wolverine games out there – 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine – for the upcoming PS5-exclusive superhero title. Insomniac Games also explained the lack of an open-world for Marvel’s Wolverine, stating that it doesn’t fit well with Logan’s character.
