Capcom has expressed its desire to adapt more of its videogame franchises to the big screen, revealing that the publisher is currently in talks with a number of leading Hollywood film studios.
“We are in the process of working out contracts for several offers we received at the Cannes Film Festival last week and hope to make an announcement soon,” said Haruhiro Tsujimoto, President of Capcom, during an interview with Bloomberg.
Tsujimoto added: “If realized, the projects will have a big impact on the game and movie industries… We want to do with games what Marvel did with comics.”
Commercially, Capcom’s most successful attempt at conquering the big screen has been its Resident Evil movie trilogy, which launched in 2002 with Resident Evil, and spawned two sequels; Resident Evil: Apocalypse in 2004, and Resident Evil: Extinction in 2007.
The publisher is currently working on a brand new CG film in the survival horror franchise, Resident Evil: Degeneration, which is currently scheduled for release some time in 2008.
Stay tuned.

Devil May Cry could work if done correctly, but the chances of any videogame to movie conversion going correctly are about as likely as Uwe Boll making the GTA movie. Resident Evil could have been so much better had someone actually played the game before. Lets hope Degenration actually follows the plot.

i have seen all the Resident Evil movies and i really do like them it has some of the story from the game but most parts are made up but its still very well Done i don't get why so many people hate movies that are based on video games if they do it well like they have then it must be good i mean they already made 3 Resident Evil movies and now they going to make the CG film that just shows im not the only one who likes them :) as for Uwe Boll man that guy sucks at making movies based on games i have seen some of hes movies and i really don't like it at all but as for Sony they have done RE very nicely :)

It takes something special to make good movie based on a book(Game in this case)
Name more then 3 good movies based on a video game? I WISH to see some of my favourite games on the big screen but i remain sceptic on the outcome ! Metal gear Devil May Cry and more have great potential !

They're already working on a horrible Chun-li movie with the half asian actress from Smallville, live action streetfighter movies are just a bad idea, stick to animation or CG for them. I can imagine a decent Mega man movie though, DMC maybe if they can straighten out the story might be cool, Bionic commando and Strider? both have protential for sure.

I dont like this at all. There once was a time when I would have begged for this. But after what we have seen done to some of our favorite classics : Mario, SF, FF, RE, Hulk, Doom, to just name a few, I dont want them to ruin anything else I have come to love.

There are a couple games I'd like to see as movies, but I don't want the franchise to be smeared by a bad adaptation. A new Spawn movie would be cool too.

I understand what all of you guys are saying, movies based on games should stick to their roots and not add any extra crap. there have been horrible comic book movies ( ie Hulk, Daredevil, Punisher) but the new Hulk film with Edward Norton looks promising, I also saw the casting list for the movie and Iron Man is suppose to make an apperance.

i thought there last two movies where amazing some people didn't like them becuase they didn't follow the game blow by blow. what those people need to realize is if they went blow by blow in game to on screen the movie would be 5 hours or more. two hour movies take some shortning and some editing to keep the movie going.
