Capcom says PS3 not capable of online beta

With the recent release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta program on the X360 marketplace, Sony fans were a little disappointed to learn they wouldn't be treated to an online beta of their own.

Obviously, it would only make sense for Capcom to release an online beta for both consoles resulting in a much larger testing group. The reason for this is simple; Capcom says that an online beta program isn't possible on the PlayStation 3 console.

"As for not having a beta program on PSN, it has already been stated that this is due to a technical issue with Sony. As in, they don't support such a program yet,” said Seth Killian, a Senior Manager for the Capcom community.

That is where things get a little shaky. Didn't Guerilla Games say they were hoping to create an online beta for its Killzone fans sometime this year? How do they plan on achieving this if what Capcom says is true and impossible?

According to another member of the Capcom family, "...even if it were possible for Sony to do, it would require 3 submissions (US, Europe, Asia/Japan) to reach the same global audience we can with MS in a single test and global submission."

We understand that lately a lot of PlayStation fans have been under the assumption that Capcom has just stopped caring as much about the Sony fanbase and have decided to focus more on Microsoft. Things like this definitely help strengthen that case even if it may not be true.

With Capcom removing Sony exclusives such as Devil May Cry 4 and bringing it to other platforms, one can only assume they were trying to start a brand equality opposed to brand loyalty; however, that isn't so clear now.

As more information is revealed around the issue regarding open online betas, we'll keep you informed. We're sure Sony would like to address the problem and if not, that's a shame for a lot of gamers.

Capcom......poor, poor Capcom. They're earning a name for themselves, for most it's "Crapcom"

Funny stuff, I'm sure they'd like to tell Media Molecule and Guerilla Games that an online beta isn't possible.

Lol, no surprise.  Crapcom is a joke.

With the way the console market is starting to turn, they may regret their attitude in the future.

i find it very odd that EA with their massive FAILURE can make a temperary online demo of burnout while capcom isn't able to produce a beta.. several months later. It honestly just sounds like they can't be bothered to ask all three departments.

You know, I was actually considering purchasing this game, but seeing that their programers are lazy ba*tards, its proly gonna suck.  Thankyou Crapcom for saving me money.

...or maybe Capcom is lying...since Guerilla games are maybe going to begin an online beta for Killzone, they could have mentioned on the same announcement that Sony would help them with the beta or some sort of sign that indicated that PSN wasn't capable of an online beta at the moment without Sony's input. Too bad the 360 has its days numbered, this is gonna be the same case like it was for the PS2, they first said it was difficult to program for, bla bla, and then what happened? The PS2 won that gen war.

All of your talk is crap unless you boycott.  If you're not ready to boycott, then STFU.  Put your money where your mouth is.  I hear people complaining about EA, but I look at my friends list and still see NFS: Pro Street and Madden.  There's nothing more pathetic than telling a company you hate them, then handing over your money.  That what sex slaves do.  That's a straight up, pimp-to-prostitute relationship!  Do any of you complainers have Devil May Cry 4?  That's what I thought.  STFU.

Well let's look at Capcom rap sheet for a minute. 1. They killed DMC4 exclusivity on PS3. 2. They took Monster Hunter 3 from PS3 to the Wii. 3. They didn't release Dead rising on PS3. 4. They release a buggy non-working online beta of Lost Planet on PSN. 5. They finally release Lost Planet on PS3 inferior of the PC/360 release. 6. They've done little to no titles for the PS3. 7. Now the say SF2 online beta is not possible even after Lost Planet beta. 8. 360 version of DMC was without massive hard drive preinstall but PS3 require 5GB! to save secs off load times. I think Capcom unofficially have gone 360/Wii exclusive. It going to be interesting to see what lame excuses they come up with for RE5 on PS3. What will they say next RE5 is technically better on Wii than on PS3. I have yet to give Capcom one dime.

thats funny i have two points that totally counter Capcoms statement. 1 The MGO beta starting in april 2 The Agency beta starting sometime. not to mention the killzone beta and LBP beta and the fact that it has already been done with the warhawk beta, So what it was more then 2 but you get the idea. Capcom just seem to have stuck there foot in there mouth.

I find it intriguing how terrible Capcom has gotten in the past couple of years. From the closure of Clover studios to the greedy jabs in the industry and now these shortcomings, it's a shame to see a studio once full of creative ideas drained and to the likes of EA.

Odium Genesis is right. I'm gonna fuggin boycott capcom. That's bullsh!t, man. What a lame excuse. I'm almost ashamed that I bought Devil May Cry 4; looking back at the forest level with the crappy shading, it's really quite obvious that Capcom is cutting corners in the development area. I'm honestly done with capcom.

The last paragraph was kinda not needed, to be honest xbox lost some of its exclusives to ps3 and even tho they might not look as good (this isn't just capcom) its still on ps3. I dont get much of this beta thing, not that i would care for beta or that i've ever tryed for one but still if some people care for it then they should have done their best to deliver it. I dont get how people are so anti capcom when its ubisoft who keeps dropping exclusive here and there. If the game is coming to ps3 then you should be happy.

wow capcom what the heck happened guys? you used to be world reknowned devs and now you've forgotten about the thing thats most important the games and your fans even your xbox360 only games are really sub par i mean lost planet was absolute poo stupid enemy ai absolutely uneccesary character animations like the one that takes a good half a minute for you character just to get back on his feet a story line i didnt really care about and wonky controls and dead rising was weak too i mean yeah its fun your first hour or so but come on the charcters were so freaking annoying and the gameplay even with the variety of zombie kiling maneuvers was boring capcom im really dissapointed, you might as well join ea's quest to make gaming boring and stale you should be ashamed

With the beta's in the past, the beta's currently in progress and the ones slated for the future for the PS3, one has to really wonder if capcom thinks the PS3 userbase is complete idiots. I am sure of it now. Capcom has certainly turned their heads on the PS3 fans. They will release their titles to catch residual sales but it seems as if the 360 and the wii are going to be their major focus. Good luck with that capcom. We will see how many fans you still have after you spit in their faces.

ok... Lost Planet had a multiplayer demo, isn't that technically a beta? Capcom had probably 5 Xbox 360 games last year that were really entertaining, and Lost Planet was there title also, whats the problem between Lost Planet needs more data then Street Fighter!

I signed the petition long ago to not buy DMC4 if it wasn't exclusive and to this day I haven't bought it nor do I plan to. Capcom doesn't know how to program for the PS3, some of the devs that have left the company made it painstakingly obvious that the devs hate trying new things, in this case, programming for the PS3. I won't buy any of thier games now or in the future, they just lost a very good customer.

For people and companies to learn a lesson they need to be taught a lesson so every loyal PS3 owner out there, don't buy this stupid game when it is released, as far as I'm concerned, Capcom dont bother releasing it for the PS3; microsoft can have it
