Dark Souls will boast a game world that’s roughly 1.5 times the size of its spiritual successor, Demon’s Souls, developer From Software’s revealed.
Speaking during a chinwag with 1UP, director Hidetaka Miyazaki let slip that the gritty RPG hack ‘n slash will also include a healthy dose of hidden areas for players to unearth, as well as the obligatory dose of side missions.
"For simplicity of explanation, as compared to Demon’s Souls, the map will be approximately 1.5 times the size. It may feel even bigger to the players," he commented.
"Not so much hidden maps, but there will be areas that are hidden away that are not critical to game completion. In regards to side-quests, they won’t be stated as specific quests, but we will implement small events to encourage players to create their own mini objectives."
Dark Souls looks set to feature plenty of foot work, with the game focusing more on exploration than its precursor. The game boasts a sprawling, seamless world to explore to your heart’s content, and From Software’s promised it won’t be bogged down by extensive load times, either.
The game’s out this fall for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
