Duke Nukem Forever to receive multiformat release

Posted on December 20th, 2007 at 07:26 EDT

Yesterday the teaser trailer for Duke Nukem Forever was finally released, depicting pre-rendered footage, as opposed to actual gameplay. No sooner than this hit the Internet did speculation go off the rails as to whether or not the highly anticipated title would see the light of day on other formats besides the PC.

Now it appears that developer 3D Realms is seeking to release the title across other platforms, primarily the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. When asked the question, Scott Miller, the CEO of 3D Realms commented, "We plan to have a multi-platform release if possible. We're not nailing down a date yet, but we're excited about the game's progress"

For those unaware Duke Nukem Forever has been in development for 10 years now. The series first kicked off in 1991 with the platform title Duke Nukem, later transitioning into the realms of 3D with the critically acclaimed 1996 FPS, Duke Nukem 3D.

Subsequent releases such as Duke Nukem: Zero Hour for the N64 and Duke Nukem: Time to Kill for the PlayStation were released to satisfy fans while Duke Nukem Forever continued its arduous development cycle, but failed to achieve the same success as their predecessor.

Stay tuned for more news on Duke Nukem Forever here at PSU as it becomes available.

its a joke. this game was supposed to come out in 98, then 01, then 03, etc etc. i hope they just stick with the unreal 3 engine and finish the game because duke nukem 3d was hilarious and fun and i'm sure this won't disappoint. but knowing 3D realms they'll ditch the U3 engine once a better one arrives, and start over......... again -_-

Personally I think the Duke should be laid to rest

The last real footage we saw of this game was back in 2001 at E3. Back then it looked like Deus Ex. I dont expect this game to come out anytime soon.

this should be kept as a classic, i think releasing it on the next gen consoles will probs ruin its legacy

It's sad when their "pre-rendered" footage doesnt even look pre-rendered.......but for Duke Nukem, it's not all about graphics, I'm sure the game will still be really fun...... *crosses fingers*

Can't believe this game has been so long in the making - maybe they should just let Duke sleep it off - forever.   And while you're at it-kill off Mario as well as his stay expired about um, um - 3 years ago?

@ IToke

Yeah, Mario is pretty dead now. Move on Nintendo please. And make a Wii with HD graphics and better motion sensing while you at it, if I even should think about buying it.

Just saw the trailer, it's pretty cool.. And it's pre-rendered in-game graphics.

LET'S ROCK!  i remember playing this game on ps1 Duke nukem. lol i would rather wait for Metal Gear Solid 4:guns of patriots than this. i'm more excited for that game.  but, it's would be cool to see it on a next gen console.

@princevegeta1980, Actaually it took them 10 years to make a 1 minute pre-rendered trailer, it will be 50 more for the game to arrive on pc, and prob 50 more after that  for it to get ported to the ps3 and 360.
