EA defends PS3 version of Madden NFL 08

Electronic Arts has responded to claims in USD Today regarding the PlayStation 3 version of Madden NFL 08, which was criticised as being “sluggish” compared to its Xbox 360 counterpart.
Comparing both versions, the article stated that the Xbox 360 version ran noticeably "twice as fast” as the PS3 title. However, in a statement issued this week, EA highlighted the fact developers have had access to Xbox 360 hardware for a considerably longer amount of time than PS3, with many having only spent the last 12 months developing for Sony’s next-generation console.
"In the case of the next-generation consoles, many publishers have been developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over three and a half years while everyone who publishes now for the PlayStation 3 with the exception of Sony has been developing for the PlayStation 3 for only a little over one full year," the publisher stated.
"The differences in the overall knowledge of the hardware is vastly different for both consoles and, as is the case with newer technology, it is very difficult to get it right the first time."
Madden NFL 08 shipped to retail across North America yesterday, with the European version due out on August 24th.

There was only a noticeable difference between the two versions when they slowed down the recording a lot. Who cares if it still plays smooth when you watch a recording of the game 10x slower.

‹----------------EA is a bunch of lazy bastards. They just didn't wanna spend time working with the ps3's cell processor. They say its too complex. Regardless they've been getting big money from MS and they got Moore at the helm running things. Don't be surprised @ their foul play, i think they just "shaking it FAST" for who ever "makes it rain the most". Watch out yall because Ubisoft is gonna start fronting on ps3 gamers too thanks to EA and of course MS.

That still doesn't change the fact that they announced this approximately 2-3 months before launch and there is still no optimization......wtf EA, did you atleast ask sony to give you a hand? You guys man........need a fúcK!n wake up call or sumthin!

That is the lamest excuse I seen.. Like I've said before.. Im a hard core Burnout Fan.. But I cant stand F***king EA for the fact that they literally show you what they main focus is.. And that $$$$$$$$$$$.. Buch of money hungry lazy bastards!!! Here is what would have been the solution to their problem... Instead of wasting their damn time with that POS rehashed Madden 07 that they put out for the PS3 when it launch..They should have skipped Madden 07 for the PS3 and consentrate and really learn the new platform.. Being that you already brought out Madden 07 on the 50 F**king platforms. (yes Im exaggerating).. But Noooooooo.. God forbid.. That poor EA misses out on that Madden 07 $$$$ for PS3... Heavens No.. Its not that Im a Sony fan or of any other console.. This is a total slap in the face to games.. You have a Company who has the license to Football games on any console and you would think that a company that has accomplished a goal like that would come with their A game.. In terms of development.. One of these days their going to get theirs...

Whats funny is they had a big Countdown party in NYC for Madden 08
Everything was covered in Xbox 360 Logos

yea, the rule of thumb used to be [ACTIVISION] Great ideas, bad quality. [EA] Boring games, great quality. Now EA doesn't even have quality anymore, I have no reason to buy their games.

Same old excuse.Ea makes it look like rocket science to engineer a new hardware to perform equally to the older red ring plagued POS.Seriously,this is a bad business strategy for long terms.But who am i to say,Because EA's way of thinking is "If don't got the money,we don't got the time".Well it is just a matter of time that EA makes PS3 the lead platform for all their games.

So what...EA's only had the PS3 to develop on for a year? Did they NOT make Madden 2007 or did that version somehow magically only take them 2 days to put together? Admittedly, it took them 3 versions to get 60fps on the 360 too, but jeez! Seems a little long to me...

A lot of you people are saying EA is lazy. Trust me, they aren't lazy. The PS3 is hard to get used to programming for but Sony is releasing tools for developers to make things a easier. Give them a break guys, at least they made the game and I don't see any problems with it.

Yeah, EA, its ok don't worry about it. Other companies are creating amazing Exclusives using the same time frame you've had and they are better. How bout you get a better excuse for milking the market with the same exact game with a new number and dropped feature.

fuk that ea are just a bunch of lazy asses. look at all the kick as.s games that are coming out that claim they aare only usin about 30% of the ps3's power. at least they are trying to figure everything out and make their game as good as they can make it. while ea just stares up from the lift and decides not to go snowboarding.

Its ok EA....I have crap-tastic 07 version of Madden....and knowing full well you didn't improve the game means why buy 08??? I'm not....and I know tons of other people who won't either. They have had over two years of development time on PS3 and they can't get 60 frames per sec. This is the second Madden game and they have like two NBA games...made countless NCAA games and everything else...and they still can't figure out 60 frames per sec. You look at tons of other games out there that do it and those that don't have immense levels with intense character details....madden has neither.....and 30 fps is crap....try playing and having your guy pause on your screen because of frame rate problems when you are trying to split a defender or time a pass....crap I tell ya. No Madden this year...and no other EA sports games....at least with those I can go with 2K sports and sony studios.

wow they only had since 07 to play with the programming of the ps3 i guess they were busy playing with that so called hi-def game system without a built in high defenition hard drive so my feeling is that to get ea to show some respect for the ps3 were gonna have to remove the blu-ray drive.(picture that ea sucks 2ksports baby)

A game developer will say just about anything these days to take the heat off of them. Despite this situation, I am getting really tired of EA's games turning out to be the same from year to year. Small changes in the game for the same big price. I was extremely excited about FIFA 08, now I believe I going to skip it. EA seems to be giving all gamers the shaft. I think we should give them the shaft back where it hurts, in the pocket book! PS3, it's in the box!

yeah man . chill people , xbox360 is not that different from a ps2 graphically trust me is only smoother , anyways Ea sport is know in hands of peter moore a micro-idoit , i think we will never see difference from xbox360 and ps3 graphically or game play wise , peter moore will F^^^ all of us over and know that 2ksport lost the license for football ea know is god of sport games , i wish ubisoft would enter this sport game era with that i have great name for them . UBISPORT, BUT YEAHH this just an excuse , just like nba 07 + 08 running at 1080p on ps3 from sony , sony needs to put there hands on football game , maybe NFL FOOTBALL 08 or something , please help EA sport .............we need better games . psn : cashville_615

EA are money grabbing lazy large corporate devs and we only have ourselves to blame (me included). Why do we keep buying their sequals thinking that they are going to be much better each time when quite often they are worse than the older versions. It has been known for me to trade in my old EA title to get the new only to be really dissapointed when i get it home. All they are concerned about is getting titles out however poor just to make the money. At the moment the PS3 versions are just lazy ports and untill the sales of the PS3 surpass the 360 a lot of developers are going to stick with the lazy ports. Come on devs PLAYSTATION has been your main bread and butter source for years, show some respect and start putting some effort in.
