EA terminates Take-Two takeover attempt

After seven months of discussion, debate and speculation, it's officially over. Take-Two will remain its own separate entity, instead of residing under EA's arching umbrella.

Take-Two's take on the situation was clear. “We remain focused on creating value for our stockholders and our consumers. This has been our goal since EA launched its conditional and unsolicited bid six months ago, a bid which was repeatedly rejected by our stockholders," read the official statement.

“Take-Two’s business has continued to strengthen since the time EA first made its offer. We have delivered terrific products to our consumers and we’ve been rewarded with very strong financial performance. We have an exciting future ahead of us, powered by our profitability, a significant cash position, the absence of debt, an undrawn credit facility and a terrific lineup of games. We are confident in the unique value of our business given our strong position in what is a growing and dynamic industry,” said Ben Feder, Chief Executive Officer of Take-Two.

EA, on the other hand, had the following to say. “EA is tracking toward a record breaking year," said John Riccitiello, Chief Executive Officer of EA. "We’re launching 15 new games including award-winners like SPORE, Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge, great new titles from the Sims, new family titles with Hasbro, and the highest quality slate of EA SPORTS titles on this generation of consoles. We’re also expanding beyond our core business with a series of direct-to-consumer launches including Warhammer Online.”

If that doesn't sounds like an aggravated 'we don't need you anyway,' I don't know what does.

It's about time those morons stopped trying. T2 is owning without thier help. I want it to stay that way, which it will. Because any company in thier right mind would not sell to EA.

EA is a great company, I just want them to have some (not so) friendly competition. That way, the gamer wins.

Take Two probably made one of their smartest moves in the industry by saying no. They make games people want, and as they said they are in  a great position, and don't need to merge their talent with EA's just yet.

with the line "If that doesn't sounds like an aggravated 'we don't need you anyway,' I don't know what does."

I think psu is starting to finally develop its own personality, or at least have enough courage to add some of their own editorial thoughts to the news. I mean think of a website like kotaku, and then one like psu. If psu were as funny and enjoyable to read, it would be soo much better.

Good news. Given EA's track record, they probably wanted to milk the h3II out of the GTA series: New game every year and little innovation between each game.

"...and little innovation between each game."

That wouldnt be much of a change from what T2 already does with its GTA franchise.

@ 15 i reckon gta IV was a great game just like you the only reason people r braging it out is coz it's not a ps3 only game

i also reckon that T2 should not sellout 2 EA coz there better than EA at making games

Really, well GTA IV was a bigger let down than Haze to me. I no longer trust Take Two to pull off another great game period.  Do people actually still play GTA IV?  I'd rather give Saints Row 2 a shot, it looks like more fun.  For that matter I'd rather play Haze again than be bored to death with T2's rip on the GTA series.  Whatever, it's just my opinion,  I'm not a sheep that's all I'm saying.

@15 & @22 i didnt like GTA4 and its no because it wasnt a PS3 exclusive GTA4 wass just boring. tell you the truth i didnt finish the game because i lost intereste in the game. plus you can do more stuff in San Anderes then you could in GTA4 only thing GTA4 have better is the city is more alive.

Consumers obviously is both their aim but at what cost? Thats what it really boils down to, ethical code in terms of game development
