ESA honours Ken Kutaragi

Posted on October 19th, 2007 at 04:31 EDT

Ken Kutaragi, known to many as the “Father of the PlayStation”, has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts across North America.

The ESA’s Nite to Unite is the game industry’s top fundraising event, which pays benefit to children’s charities in the United States.

"Ken's contributions to our community and the entertainment lives of ordinary consumers are extraordinary," said President of the ESA, Michael D. Gallagher whom represents computer and videogame publishers in the U.S.

"His insight and vision revolutionized in-home entertainment, enabling advancements in creativity, technology, and innovation."

The Nite to Unite, which kicked off in 1999, has raised over 7.8 million USD for children’s charities. The event that took place this year included a black-tie optional dinner and a live and silent auction at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Past heirs of the ESA Champion Award include George Lucas, director and founder of LucasArts; GameStop’s Dan DeMatteo; Electronic Arts’ Bing Gordon; Toys ‘R’ Us’ Michael Goldstein; Nintendo’s Howard Lincoln; Sega’s Isao Ogawa; and Electronic Boutique’s Jeffery Griffiths.

So even outside of the general videogame industry, it is good to see that the mind behind the PlayStation is humble and contributing to society the way many people of influence and power should do - more Goodwill for Sony indeed.

He deserves this.  Gates contributes a lot of money to the cardboard box business, though.  You have to have some way to return your 360.
