FFXIII to be held back on PS3 due to Xbox 360 version

During the DKS3713 event yesterday, Square Enix director Motomu Toriyama revealed that the US and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII will be held back on the PlayStation 3 due to development of the Xbox 360 version.
In a behind the scenes video produced by Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura, Toriyama reconfirmed the development plans for Final Fantasy XIII.
"We haven't changed the direction of the development," said Toriyama. "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."
With the PS3 version complete and hitting Japan in 2009, PS3 gamers in the United States and Europe will have to wait until the Xbox 360 port is done. According to Nomura, his team didn't receive Xbox 360 development kits until a few days ago, so depending on how long it takes the Square Enix team to port the title, the U.S. and Europe may not receive Final Fantasy XIII until 2010.
As his final comment, Noruma stated that the PS3 version will not suffer due to the Xbox 360 development.
"We aren't going to change any specifications because of the multi-platform announcement," he said. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."

You know, usually when someone says that there's going to be a big important announcement, we expect it to be something good. This is ~^*$ing bull. Cut the Shlt Square, give us a reason to still have faith in you. Yeah, like someone else said, Square Enix was the reason I blew 600 bltching dollars on a game system that has maybe two exclusives(that I'm interested in) for it now, unless they decide to be F|_|ckbags with KH3 as well. And a demo of FFXIII is the farthest thing from shocking I've ever heard. And honestly, my anger is with all these companies. Microsoft for buying out a game that NO real 360 owner is that excited about in the first place, Square for S(rewing us over, and Sony for not doing a GOD D@MNED THING about any of it. Sony, ensure us something good already. Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2 aren't doing much for me

Thanks alot Square from all the final fantasy titles I have purchased in the past on my playstation consoles to be told one thing years ago at events now to be told it will be put on hold because of some other console, any console for that matter- I can't believe you would do this to your fans just for another console. fk this game and fk u SE , im sticking to my ps3 esclusives and there are still many coming out , next year is year of god of war 3 and gt5 and manyyyy more ps3 sequels also so go get a stick and fk urself and to the fools complaining to buy this game because they wont make games on ps3 lol wtf this is the new genreation sony will make fresh titles and xbox 3 fk me will have old trash from playstaion stupid wankazzzzzz

You have to understand there will a couple more million ps3's out by 2010 and possibly a new micro box the final fantasy franchise is going to thrive on the PS3 and it doesnt matter what you say now we all know if you are truely a FF fan and have followed them through the years you will purchase it for the ps3 and hopefully not many of your friends still have a 360 and purchase it for that system. we need to show SE that they made a mistake porting to the cr@pbox. That's All.

Looking at the actual quote. He states that ff13 is tobe release simultaneously in NA and Europe but doesn't mention holding back the PS3 version or did I read it wrong. From what I can tell it seems to just be an assumption. Can any1 clarify this?

I cannot wait till they announce FF7 Remake for the 360 exclusively. I truly dont care about FF13 because I assume its the same crap combat system from 12. FFX-2 and 12 sucked so hard it burned anyway

Well obviously the FF-fan community will (myself) suffer from this..because of the further delay this means. OK Square-Enix can make good games...but they are not the smartest ones...nuff said

Why is everyone pointing the finger at Square Enix? You know that if Sony wasn't a bunch of cheap a**** that the game would have stayed exclusive, and this wouldn't even be an issue. Then I read some of the comments and the fanyboyism is just ridiculous. People talking about "Don't support SE, don't give them your money, Make a statement" SInce when did video games become so political. If its a good game buy it, if not then don't. You don't have to go protesting about how your butt hurt about SE's decesion to make more money. Get used to it, because that's what this generation is. Thank god the PS3 has blu-ray, otherwise who would give a S***t about it at this point.

Ugh. What happened? There's GOT to be money changing hands if they're holding back release until it's simultaneous. There's no reason for that unless they're being paid....or unless they're inviting Sony to pay them NOT to hold back the PS3 version till the 360 one is done.
This is wild though...didn't get dev kits until a few days ago? I guess we'll see by how well the 360 version ends up running exactly what kinds of things they're doing in their code, eh? Wonder how big this thing will end up being?

the problem with you expecting sony to purchase FF13''s exclusivity is that they are spending all of their money on first party development(their the reason for the great 08 line up)
so......if sony spends their money on making Littlebigplanet,Socom,Motorstorm 2. Siren. other psn titles, second party titles from studios such as eat sleep play, insomniac, sucker punch, etc. then i feel that money was well spent(We have not even seen anything in the way of gameplay or any substance from titles for 09 such as GOW3, WKC, Infamous, or any team ico products)

This is retarded. Delays and EA ports. Have they not seen what can be done even with MGS4? We will still be getting 360 quality games on the PS3 which is making the blu-ray format useless. Square Enix fell for the MS pay offs and lets see EA port a game like MGS4 to a 360.

PlayStation Exclusive are amazing - they're so well made, Uncharted even comes in Portuguese how cool is that!
who do you want to back? a company who has respectful earned its title in the games industry such as Sony's done or a company who makes sh!t games that no one wants to buy or a spinless immoral unethical company who cheats itself to fame by buying people out?
PlayStation 3 offers a top notch service to it members - thats something worth fighting for. i'm backing Sony to the very end! fück Squenix

i was just thinking if this was being made for the ps3 then it would've been made with blu-ray in mind, right?.....so how is it possibble for it to be put on a dvd without compromising quality?.......could square have been paid to put this on xbox from the start but waited till there was a little bit of hype for the ps3 before breaking the news?

also i mite add blu-rays only spin at a speed on x2 that's pretty slow but it still reads at the same speed as the 360 with it's DVD that spin x52 i think anyway if the wii hasn't teached us anything that is the gameplay is the important not the high as graphics that's why most wii games load so quick and are fun. back 2 the reading speed it takes 5 times longer for the ps3 2 read the whole disc imagion filling one of those disc full that's why MGS4 and other games have to install themselfs onto the harddrive with u w8ing forever for the 2 do it i can a few minutes of my live but if they contiune like this we will be w8ing much longer but i won't reckon that would happen anyway but idk it could

I really hope Final Fantasy Versus 13 comes out sooner then expected, I want to play at least one god dammit. I've heard as well that the Japan version will support english so I could try importing the game, if that is true though....Basically puts the game going on Xbox 360 down the toliet as everyone would import it for PS3 LOL.

I find it laughable that all the fanboys who say they wont buy this game now, purely because of its multiplatformity. I will concede it is likely moneyhats from MS that delay the release of the ps3 version (why else would you not release a finished product?) but not buying the game because its on the 360? yes, reducing sales numbers on the playstation console will show square good!! that way, my mates with only 360's wont miss out on versus either as less sales on ps3 = more likely multiplatting more games. YAY for idiots! keep up the good work guys....
