Japanese publication Shonen Jump has got the scoop on the ubiquitous blonde male character recently seen nabbing the spotlight in the latest media onslaught for Square's Final Fantasy XIII.

According to the magazine, the mysterious individual is known as Snow, making him the second weather-related character in the hotly anticipated RPG next to female protagonist, Lightning.

Final Fantasy XIII is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan next year.

Cloud, squall, terra, luna, tidus, and ashe are all examples of this naming convention. The truth is there are several references to mythologies, cultures and religion that are always evoked in the series. This is nothing new to (attentive)Final Fantasy fans.

@staticneuron...spot on there dude, every final fantasy hve naming conventions that carry accross.  There has been a Ragnarok in some form or another in every game as one example.  SE follow a reasonably rigid form of name generation...not that thats a bad thing...kinda ties it all together...well for those that play more than one FF...

Its reallly not up to Microsoft where they sell it and i dont think Square would recoup the dev's cost if they sold it in Japan because everyone is going to end up buying a PS3 for this

I want this game......like now! Can't wait for it, even if it is on the 360. Btw, the prince's name from verses has also been confirmed, in japanese I think. It's something like Noctis, not sure about the spelling though :/

I really doubt he will be called Snow, definately not in the English translation anyway..probably another word in another language that means Snow, which is usual for a Final Fantasy character's name

Mr Harradence, sorry to be pedantic but when refering to a male, you spell blond without an 'e'.

Ever think there is a pattern here? No not just the weather and earth ones of former FF games, but maybe in whatever military groups Lightning and Snow were previously members of, they handed out like-codenames, such as solid or liquid snake, ocelot, etc.    Although it does kinda remind of the weak little boy named Snowe in Suikoden IV.

why not use a japanese or spanish weather name like tempestad or inazuma(lightning) or sora(sky) instead of these english names, that'd would be slightly deeper

still actually waiting for SE to publish a game for the ps 3, they seem more concerned about releasing games on the 360.
