FIFA 10 features revealed

EA’s inaugural soccer game is being showcased at E3 this year and we’ve got word of some of the features and enhancements that are coming our way in FIFA 10.

On the pitch, A.I. has been tweaked to ensure more realistic behavior. There’s a range of enhancements to goalkeeper, defense and attacking play. According to EA, players will now “move, behave and position themselves more realistically,” as well as “analyze space more effectively, curve their runs in an attempt to stay onside, create passing lanes naturally, and drive for more variety in attacking options.”

Tweaks to defensive strategies include better awareness by defenders to cover teammates who are out of position and more urgency when it comes to clearing the ball when caught in a dangerous situation.

There are three major enhancements that EA has spoken of. First up is a 360 degree dribbling system that aims to give defenders better close control of the ball. EA say that a new animation technology will mean that “skilled dribblers now have the ability to face the defender and use highly responsive lateral dribbling to skip past him.”

Secondly, is the introduction of ‘Freedom in Physical Play,’ a new concept that not only enables players to execute wider dribble touches, but also creates more tussling for the ball between attacker and defender.

Finally, there’s an overhaul of the Manager Mode. Apparently there will be 50 improvements, including a new transfer system and integration with the real world of soccer.

Further features are set to be revealed over the coming months.

slightly better graphics, couple of extra features, slap on the next number and ship it out, seriously EA must be laughing at us for buying these games.

@2 agree with you completely. not buying anything from EA unless its really offering something new....i.e Dead Space. dont see how FIFA 10 could be considerably diff. from 09 and so dont think it merits spending money on it.

You know they've been saying that A I improvements since 06 but i never saw any difference...i think the best soccer game would be PES with better graphics More animations the old dribling system , dynamic Weather including Snow, and a smooth 60 fps including online...

You guys are so wrong! For the first time ever in a football game there is going to be 360degree movement. That is HUGE! Think about that for one second. EA have been stepping up their sports franchises the past few years(yes before that they were cack) so now that they are doing something right, please dont slate them!

If you play fifa enough you can easily justify buying the game. I buy every 2 years although I might buy this one after 09. The little things can add a whole lot to the experience as they all count in a tight game. If your thrashing slight problems may not annoy you but when things get down to knifes edge you want gameplay that works 100% of the time.

It gets better every year recently, although I absoultey hate having American Football scores coming through on my ticker. No-one watches American Football in the UK.

EA say that a new animation technology will mean that “skilled dribblers now have the ability to face the defender and use highly responsive lateral dribbling to skip past him.” That sounds waaay to powerful and easy if your Manchester United

haha, well no one cares about soccer in the US.  NFL is our sport like cricket in the UK or AFL in Australia.

Love FIFA09 and the fact that they are to improve the offside thing ( curve their runs in an attempt to stay onside) is great as it happens all too often.

But yes agree with others, EA are masters of making minimal changes and increasing the number

"haha, well no one cares about soccer in the US.  NFL is our sport like cricket in the UK or AFL in Australia."

.. and even then Soccer is the most popular sport among american youth and is currently your  largest sport among youngsters

"Soccer is another popular team sport played in the United States. Soccer is the number one youth participation sport in the U.S. today, more popular even than football, baseball, basketball, or hockey, up to about the age of 13"

... so I guess that someone in the US cares and will more and more in the future.

Damn I still think those improvements won't be enough for me. I bought fifa 09 after reading a lot of positive reviews, but I was dissapointed, don't get me wrong, this game is good, but I'm probably more a PES guy than fifa fan. So I don't think these improvements will convince me to buy fifa 10 until it's 10 pounds or less for used copy and I really really hope Konami will make a lot of improvements :)

@15 They've been saying that for years.  The proof is in the pudding.  The US soccer team is the best of the best and we get our hats handed to us every four years in the World Cup.  Soccer may be popular for the younger children, but by the time they get to their teens, soccer is nothing but a distant memory for most.  Further proof is in the attendance and television numbers for MLS games.  Can you say horrible?  The league had to overpay a declining star to try to pump some enthusiasm into the league and fail---miserably!  Soccer in the US will always be on par with the WNBA, LPGA and the PGA when Tiger is not playing.  Dems just the facts.  I can't wait for Fifa 10 though.

    @ 15:

you could easily say that about the UK, its probably the most played sport all the way up to 30+ (pub teams) yet we never get past the quarter final in the world cup :P

it's a shame that football isn't popular in the US.  I suppose if steroids cannot improve your performance in a sport, no one cares

THEYVE EVEN ANNOUNCED A PRACTICE MODE!!!!! and the transfers glitch where teams such as preston and lower leagues teams offer like 89,000,000 for great players has been fixed too so big teams should only move forward for purchase. and I think they mentioned on IGn that theyve fixed the probelm where teams like united would end up at 10th even though they have great players, simulations might take longer when loading but its all worth it, it only simulates a game based on player skill and morale
