According to the latest industry whispers, celebrated developer Factor 5 has apparently shut its doors after more than 20 years in the business.

News comes following an email from “inside sources” published by IGN’s Matt Casamassina, which contains the following:

“We just learned from inside sources that developer Factor 5 has officially closed their doors as of today. That’s some pretty big news considering that those guys have been around for quite a while. It’s definitely a real shame! I hope that this information is helpful to you.”

Factor 5 was founded in 1987 and is perhaps best known for their work on the PlayStation 3 exclusive Lair, along with GameCube/Nintendo 64 franchise Rogue Squadron.

Hopefully we’ll have more on this development in the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled.
