The hype train has now reached full speed with the latest issue of Famitsu, a popular Japanese gaming magazine, hinting at a possible Final Fantasy VII remake.
From the translation, Famitsu states, "A third party game that will save the PlayStation 3 in Japan is to be announced tomorrow."
With all the recent rumors hitting the net lately, we can only assume they are talking about Square Enix and Final Fantasy VII (Whether or not the speculated Endless Crisis: Final Fantasy VII reported yesterday is a separate project or not is unknown, though it may simply just be the full title for a proposed remake)
Also, according to rumor, the Square Enix-developed project is being fully funded by Sony Computer Entertainment.
So keep your eyes and your ears peeled at the Tokyo Game Show is about to begin. Stay tuned to PSU for all your Tokyo Game Show updates.

@Triple Dk
Most people want a remake of FFVII not only because it is one of the best console RPGs of all time, but the original was riddled with translation errors and was widely thought to be incomplete. A remake would correct these glaring problems, and being able to play through the experience again but in next gen graphics would be increadible. I'm sure they'll add new features, but if they do remake it I hope they leave the Materia system in tact instead of going to one of their more modern sphere grids. Also, hopefully you'll be able to bring Aerith back toward the end of the game as was originally planned.

I hope the remake's fighting system is similar to kingdom hearts or like the fighting system in ultimate allaince but with out the top veiw maybe lower like a third person look and the ability to change between charaters in a battle like in ultimate allaince. so i guess what i'm saying is give me an Action RPG OK. psn id: MUSTANG750R

@iToke: The original MGS for PSX is perfectly fine how it is. I recently bought a used copy and am enjoying it very much. One thing I didn't enjoy is that it took me less than nine hours to complete... and that was from doing many things over or getting lost. MGS is too short a game to be worth "remaking" in my opinion. It would be kind of cool to see how MGS would look redone for the PS3, though.

This will NOT be the announcment at TGS... see this link:
http://gamernode.com/News/4077-Square-Enix-reopens-talks-on-a-PS3-FFVII-Remake/index.html
Which basically says they have considered it, but they are not doing it technically yet, and they ARE announcing a new game at TGS.. so they knew at the time that they stated that, they were anouncing something new and still deny ff7 is being worked on, so the two statements contradict each other in terms of supporting it would be FF7 remake that is going to be announced.. it is going to be something else.. oh well here's till hoping the NEXT announcement may be it. -

@IToke and Jared
Uh...I don't know where you've both been, but MGS WAS in fact remade, on the GameCube, using the MGS2 engine. It's called Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
As for the FF7 remake, unfortunately i guess it looks like we'll have to keep hoping unless Square-Enix made people sign NDAs lol...Endless Crisis wasn't even shown I don't think, unless their TGS appearence hasn't been made yet?

They need Final Fantasy 7 as there isnt much other than MGS as a draw card for PS3 in the near future. Sony needs to give Square what ever they want - cash, advertising, whatever... Square & Konami deserve it.

Justin Pinter the retard strikes again. PSU, please try to verify your sources. You are horribly wrong again with this article and you started massive rumors on the interent with it. You are by far one of the worst PS3 sites on the net. Poor journalism, inaccurate articles...need I say more?

It's not in the new Famitsu. They simply cited that source probably assuming none of their readers either read Famitsu or that they cannot read Japanese. Why do you think this story didn't pop up anywhere else? The latest Famitsu was the Halo 3 issue. The review for Halo was in it, it was a big deal, however, NO ONE mentioned a "killer Sony app". I love my PS3, but I hate sites like this one, it makes PS3 owners look foolish.

I don't if anyone is aware but sony owns a few shares of Square-Enix Ltd. beeing so I doubt that a FFVII is remake for the ps3, will ever be ported to the 360, it will never happen...and more, i'm a big fan of the series and other games from them like most people, but i'm betting that they're gonna leave us hung dry for a lot of time always expecting the game, and when everyone else has given up on the remake, they'll launch it. I wouldn't be admired if they were even working on it in secret...it's a trumph card they just can keep out of the whole scenary

Okami is being remade for the Wii. It could be the start of a flood of remakes going to the Wii. If these titles are succesful - how long before Konami & Square consider their options. Sony must make it financialy attractive for these publishers. They need to pay whatever Konami & Square want.
