Well this came much sooner than expected. We can only hope that FW 2.40 will follow its example.

Well... instead of working on this update they could have give us the in-game XMB at the same time a couple weeks later...

Seriously ps3 online is a joke!!! We've all been waiting for how long. I mean cmon Halo 2 has better online than the ps3 and that game was on the orginal xbox. Seriously sony release us something, give us just trophys, anything. Thank god I have an xbox 360.

sony is a bunch of bs. In im about to trade my ps3 in for a 360 if they keep making false statements about this firmware 2.40. It's about more then a month since we been waitin n they keep takin their time to play around. But why give us what we want when you keep posting things saying that it will be out this day in we have to wait a whole nothere month? That's something im starting to wonder sony? Psn: da_monk

Ahh good ol rumors...making people disappointed when Sony never said anything.  Quit reading into rumors and you won't be disappointed.  In-game xmb will likely come with E3 so Sony can use it as an announcement.

but to the people...crying.....at least we get updates...you wanna switch to 360 you get at max 2 or 3 updates a year...we get it at least once a month or so...besides being impatient about one feature...thats insane...theres so many other things out there that needs to be done...look at the browser for example, or custom soundtrack ( may come with 2.4 update? ) ... theres more to it.

RuiyJR, Ive played warhawk and I can still tell the difference. The difference is there is no gamerscore, u can't private chat, Sometimes i have to back out of the game just to check a message. That's a joke. Also when the xbox 360 gets updates they actually do something for the gamer.

i hope this update updates the ps2 compatability list on ps3, i want to play mgs2 on ps3 :)

Obviously this doesnt have ingame XMB, thats 2.4 (Apparantly) not 2.36. Dang people..

Great things will come to he who waits. Quess we'll just have to b patient. At least they are doing something. I still love my PS3.

oh well i really dont need the xmb until home comes out anyways...and i dont know who is really dumb enough to trade in a ps3 for a 360 just because they are dissapointed.  i mean i guess if online is all you wanted then you could go beat off to halo 24/7 but when you have a game like MGS4 c'mon hands down the best game on the market.

...and then comes 2.37, 2.38, 2.39 and 2010 In-Game XMB will be shifted to 3.x

Did anyone put 2 and 2 together?  Why would they need to stabilize SPECIFIC software?  Could it possibly be the few titles that had been buggy with the in-game XMB?  That's the only reason I'm seeing for this update.  Feel free to bash me for it.

maybe people feel we are threatened by saying they are going to trade their ps3 for whatever. every bupdate whatever is welcomed.

I cant believe these people are moaning!  we have only had the greatest game thus far to grace a console to play (MGS4 for those who live in a cupboard) for the past few days. You see SONY like to get things right first time, which is why they take their time in creating these updates, they want PS users to have a reliable enjoyable experiance. Do you really think they all sit around drinking coffee and playing cards? Sony dont need to rush out their consoles or updates, the PS3 matures slowly and gracefully!

OBVIOUSLY its going to come out tonight guys! Use your minds! If they gave us an update last night to fix bugs with software that had issues.....what do you think they're doing tonight? Give us 2.40! They just had to sweep the little glitches to give us the best product. Mark my words, its coming tonight..

im guessing 2.35 and 2.36 are updates to help in-game xmb work right on all games.

this is a stability update in prep for 2.4.  RELAX. it will come in a couple days!  ITS CALLED FRAMEWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Da_man, we've been waiting for XMB for more than a month, and everyone that cries about not having everything right away is nothing short of spoiled. Getting everything right away and unsecure and not debugged is what MS does. So, if you want Sony to be like MS, then hope for a good company to fail.

Second off, one major game that would need a stabilization would be GTA4, especially for the 60 GB PS3s. lrn2research before you start bashing something. Too bad those that are complaining won't read this anyway, or rather, give a crap toward reason...

Oh well another inch closer to the Sony dream.

I really would like to see some new innovation in regarding the music/video/game folders and playlists.  Some more free visualizations would be nice too.

Also a new gui controls for the movie player, the current one is lifted from PS2 and never sat well with me, the icon layout always sits in the middle of the film your watching.

They don't seem to be looking at smaller improvements that affect every day use of the console.  Shame because PS3 can do everything, it's just a hassle to do it, or the software is out of date (web browser).

Also, I'm still dumbfounded as to why PSN store image loading is still so slow and nearly as bad to navigate!  Surely they must've realised that they need to speed this up, either at the server end or reviewing their code from the last update.

Let's see what E3 brings us this year.

I think even as a Sony fanboy I have to admit Sony software sucks.  I'm not talking games, I'm talking firmware.  Why is it when I get an update for my 360 it takes like 2 minutes to download and install.  Yet with the PS3 it takes like 15 to 20 minutes?  I'm not a huge online gamer, but xbox live blows the doors off PSN.  Of course it's also 50 bucks a year.  I just think stuff like in game XMB should have been there since launch.  The PS3 is still far behind the xbox360 in functionality.   I know it seems like I'm dogging out Sony, but really I'm not.  These are just simple truths.  All that aside I personnally love my PS3 more than the 360 because of games.  I'm not a 1st person shooter lover.  As long as my PS3 keeps giving me games like Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, and MGS4 I will be a Sony Fanboy.

2.36... that gives em wiggle room to use 2.37,2.38,2.39 if they want to delay some more. Dont get ur hopes us yet... Im thinking a few months yet.

That is good news, but don't hype yourselves up to much, as I think it could take up to another month. But I sure hope it comes within the next few days.

Well you don't need to update the 360 much cause everything is there and work's great. All the ps3 owner's want in game Xmb and custom soundtrack option's. The regular xbox had custom soundtrack option's that was 7 year's ago. In game XMB should have came with the system or they should have held off on messaging and such.

still disappointed I am starting to go to the dark side (360) soon all sony does is bs us.

for everyone that is saying that sony is just bs, shut the fuc.k up! we dont pay these motherfuc.kers to give us updates or give us online gaming, its all for free. so they really dont need to give us this but they do anyway b/c sony does good business unlike 360 that charges for this sh.it. so for those of you that want a 360, go waste your money on it b/c you probably will most likely revert back to the ps3. i know 7 people with the 3fixme and 5 now have sold their microsoft doorstop and now enjoy a ps3. so be patient, remember its free and sony just wants to not do what shi.tbox does

What's a "Xbox360"?  I think I remember something like that, but didn't it like....shut down and have red ring worm, or something?  Yeah, I'll stick to the power of the PS3, and the capabilities of it.  For those that want to get rid of yours....I'm looking for another, but I won't pay full price for yours, since you obviously don't know or appreciate the power the PS3 possess......I'm sure yours has been abused.

Why are all you complainers even here?  Does anyone not actually read news or do you just like gossip so much that you would die without it?  The Playstation Blog said that 2.36 was coming out before 2.4 but that 2.4 WILL have in game XMB.  You guys act like you are on life support and the lack of 2.4 is keeping you bed ridden until its release.  Get over your spoiled brat attitude and deal with it already. 

For those of you saying it will be 2.37, 2.38 blah blah, why don't you look at the history of the updates before you go spoutin your mouth off.  I usually keep my mouth closed towards idiots, but this is getting rediculus.  Your spoiled attitudes are ruining a perfectly fine website.  Its called discipline parents, use it already!

We all new before this was posted on here that 2.4 wasn't going to come out until after 2.36, and yet you act like sony screwed us over.  Go back to the 360, cause frankly the PS3 community can do without you spoiled brats.  And as for the 360 fanboys that are trolling, this is a PS3 website, don't you have better things to do then pointing out obvious things to get over your jealousy?  No? nevermind then.

Downloading the update information in the background wouldn't be a bad idea, imo. It really doesn't matter to me much, because I have my updates download when I go to sleep, but it still would be a good idea.

 HUH? Why not combine both updates into just 1 update, if the in-game xmb is almost ready?

Guys, i think its obvious Sony arent going to release 2 updates in a row, looks like we're going to wait a while for 2.40 then, eh?

Ah well, at least its confirmed we will have trophies and in-game XMB!

Im thinking that this prepares the games and stabilizes them so they will be compatible with in game XMB.

Yeah, I don't know why everyone's complaining about this.  I mean I want the in game music and the convenience of not leaving the game to add a friend, or send a message, but at least with the music part, you can just bring a stereo into your gaming room and play whatever you want.  Nobody spent hundreds of dollars on a gaming machine just so they could play their own music in games.  Oh, 360 has this feature and PS3 doesn't, therefore PS3 totally sucks...well, 360 has a feature where you have pay to get online, so maybe they suck. We can play Blu-Ray movies.  Can 360 play Blu-Ray?  NO!  Even if HD-DVD had won out over Blu-Ray, you’d have to buy the extra stuff to use the 360 as a HD-DVD player.  At least PS3 is updating and trying to please their customers.  Does Microsoft say, “Let’s not charge people for X-Box Live and let’s make future models where our customers can play Blu-Ray movies because nobody uses HD-DVD anymore”?  NO!  They’re Microsoft, one of the richest and most powerful companies in the world, and if anyone could afford to have people not pay extra for something, they could, but they don’t do it.  They only work hard enough to get that “ehh, it’s okay, I guess” reaction out of people, milk them for as much money as possible, and laugh all the way to the bank.  Sony on the other hand doesn’t require people to pay for people to get online and play with their friends, does include Blu-Ray player, and are working on getting the in-game music and messaging thing going.  On top of that, there’s Home, which will also be free.  If they were going to charge for Home, people would buy it and Sony would make money, but they decided not to.  I'd rather Sony take their time, update when they need to, and get things right instead of rush it, and make it where it's all buggy and won't work half the time, and ruin your gaming experience.  Maybe if Microsoft did this with the 360, you wouldn’t have people getting a red ring of death.  Perhaps that's where all the money from X-Box Live goes to, fixing messed up 360's.

The only thing I am wondering about is how someone, I think it was PSU, but they said the in-game XMB was coming before MGS4 came out. That didn't happen. It would be nice to have actual facts rather than some amatuer gaming website writer talk speculations and get everyone excited, only to have them get angry and annoyed when they learn it was not true, towards the ones who are actually doing real work, SONY.

Haha, I cant stop laughing at all you idiots.  I really dont care when 2.4 comes out, even though i know i will be excited when it does.  Im just happy with what i got.  I really pitty the people who have 40gig and 80 gig playstations and are complaining when i paid 600 dollars for my 60gig and i couldnt be more satisfied.

Wow this was an interesting update, i noticed a few things differently.  First after the system restarted the user list came up alot quicker and i was signed into PSN alot quicker as well.  Also the web browsing is alot smoother the PSU website instantly comes up as well as You Tube videos load quicker and finally Remote Play over the internet is not as laggy as it once was.

Since this update only appears to help out on some PS1 titles, I can only assume this means we're gonna have some (hopefully) good PS1 titles available for download this week.

@ da man... go ahead trade it in because of you being impatient... ;) trade it in for a 360... now dont be rushing to the store when resistance 2 comes out, ffXIII and vs XIII whenthe full version of gran turismo comes out... what about KillZone and little big planet.. go on ahead trade it in... ;)

Why do we have to continually put up with people endlessly complaining about Firmware updates, I honestly am confused about ingame XMB? is that not why we all have headsets now? why do we need to write messages when we can speak to others via voice? again why would we want to get invites to other games when I am playing a game already? My own Mp3's ? seems like a kick in the teeth to those people who spend there days writting high quality tunes for games. All I would say is Get over it, we know the features are coming, I for one feel its nice that Sony doesn't rush out firmwares, Somebody said it only take a couple of minutes for 360 updates, well I belive thats becuase M$ just patch there firmware were as Sony rewrite the whole lot( correct me if I am wrong). Somebody also said the PS3 is less functional than 360 ? have you tried doing anything on your 360 (play movies for one) when your not connected to the net ?   I wonder if PSU can write an option to the posts so that we can block comments from Users we feel are constant whingers,and stop them from showing up, because I could name about 20 that would be on the list imediately
