Firmware 2.40 pulled from update availability

Well, we sincerely hope you all were able to update to Firmware 2.40 either this morning or last night as Sony has officially taken the firmware update offline. Users currently trying to update their consoles will be greeted to absolutely nothing. Whether this has anything to do with the alleged hack that took place against the Sony website this morning or not is still in question.

If you're hoping to download it from one of the three major regional websites, that isn't happening either as those sites are displaying 404 errors.

We've contacted SCEA in order to find out what has happened in regards to the update and we'll keep you guys in the loop as soon as we hear back.

    When will they put up the 2.40 firmwire again, I didn't have the time to download it!

    thank you psu for keeping on top of this stuff, it is very important news. As i stated before, anyone who downloaded fw 2.40 should back up their saves and files from today because this is a MAJOR PROBLEM.... (if your ps3 has not died yet)

    Maybe this is limited to the US ? - My littlebrothers PS3 is not having any problems, and I cant update mine untill tomorrow .. If EU still have it..

    i just checked and it looks like its still up on the American Site...

     

    oh wait, nevermind.  They advertise it but when you try to download it you get an error code.

    For some reason after i got the update i couldn't get onto pain it just kept saying that it was checking for updates over and over again

    guy please, this is serious stuff, i wish i wasnt in such a rush to download it this morning! It is rumored that this problem is because of custom themes, it is recommend that you all change your themes to the orginal or ones from the ps store. FW 2.41 should be released within 24 hours. In the meantime, for those of us that have downloaded fw 2.40 it is very wise to not play any game in hopes of keeping your console alive.

    i got it this morning and im playing cod n its going great just my headset was making a high pitch noise but nothing else

     the only problem i have is not being able to play my music in Pain, other then that my ps3 is fine

    ya i dont understand why when i tryed to listin to music when i was playing warhawk this moring it wasent working so maybe there trying to fix that or there putting trophies ready for the games or something

    huh, thats funny....i updated last night when it first came out...have had ZERO problems with my PS3...have been using a custom theme....heh...guess im just lucky...

    Apparently, this update has caused some ps3's to not boot after the update. My guess is that if you weren't immediatley affected, that you are ok to continue using your ps3. (be safe and backup first) This of course is my opinion and not  a fact. I have not had any problems and my ps3 is operating correctly. imho I believe the update has been compromised and that is why it has been removed. (I hope it's not Sony's fault)  :(

    2.4 Has messed up my playstation. I get 10x more lag on RSV2 and COD4 now.....The "InGame XMB" Doesnt do anything Ingame....you have to be outside a game to use stuff.....No trophys on any games apart from 1....Ingame music doesnt work ingame.....My ps3 is slower and keeps freezing! This isnt Living......Not at all.

    I download it yesterday and I played MGS4 without any problem. I saved three or more times and I tried used XMB with PS and PS2 games (still the same menu).

    The only wierd thing it's the XMB don't run smoothly but it's normal considering we're playing a game and using XMB at the same time :P

    This is just a guess but, maybe, just maybe, the problems with 2.40 have to do with some custom themes. Guys, you have to admit that some of the themes contain some pretty detailed icons, I don't know, maybe they're taking too much memory, or the system can't handle it well. Anyway this is just a guess since I'm using the original theme with a wallpaper and haven't had any problems. I downloaded it from the official site this morning since I was constantly getting network erros while trying to d/ling from my PS3. I just hope it IS that since that can be easily fixed...I think...I hope...I pray....

    just how lucky i am to get the update today morning. I updated both Japanese and EU machine sans problem, thankfully.

    I think if the problem is bricking some PS3, sony made the right decision. Not only because I have no warranty claim over my japanese PS3 (meaning if it is broken, I can't complain - which did not happen when I updated the PS3). Maybe tomorrow we'll see 2.41

     I got it last night and have been playing SSHD all night getting trophies, im having no problems at all. I have a custom theme, but when im in game and i bring up the XMB its just the basic icons. Hopefully it wont mess up my PS3. Now im scared to get back on my PS3. Dont think i'll use it until i hear that its back up and everything is ok.

    well that sucks my ps3 just got the yellow light of death 2 days before the update came out. i just hope they put it back on before i get my ps3 back.

    lucky that i woke up early today... my ps3 is working fine theres been nothing wrong with it. i have the 80gb motorstorm bundle and i updated 7 a.m.

    i got my 2.3 update about 4 or 5pm uk time and its been working great havn't had any of the problems that people are talking about but i feel for those who have had there ps3 bricked:(

    So far at the moment I haven't had any problems with my PS3. I downloaded it when it first came up. I got a 60gig launch one.

    I downloaded the update, like most of you did, when it just came out. The problem I've had so far is that my PS3 already froze on me twice while using the Internet Browser. So I think there might be some issues with the update which is why I think they pulled it.

    So hopefully they will be able to fix the issues and re-release tomorrow as 2.41 and fix the issues that it might have.

    I still have mine sitting in the Flashdrive, still haven't updated the PS3 cause of all these complaints, don't want to risk it.
