First NHL 09 screenshots

With the Stanley Cup recently hoisted by the Detroit Red Wings for the fourth time in the past eleven years, EA Sports has gone ahead and released some images of the upcoming NHL 09 title. What better way to keep the hockey season alive than to already start the hype for the next installment of their NHL franchise.

NHL 08 saw some steep improvements over its predecessors and EA showed gamers exactly why their hockey title is the best in the world. With NHL 09 already displaying its own improvement with the inclusion of the defensive skill stick, it's looking like EA Sports is getting ready to deliver yet again to the hockey faithful.

We've included some screenshots below of the upcoming title in order to get your teeth chilled. So enjoy and let us know what you think.

    hrm. maybe if we had side by side 08 and 09 it would be easier to see the differences and advances of the new title.

    what they should do it learn from nk hockey games and put in mini games and 2 on 2s and stuff like that. those are always fun once in a while. while nhl08 is very realistic sometimes its nice to kick back and play some other things.

    psn id: gingo.... this is what i hate about EA sports titles, why do they make them look similar every single year and hardly do anything to improve them, they should improve their graphics every year to give people a reason to buy the game

    Gingo, what're you talking about? Every single year the graphics are refined and touched up. That's how sports titles are made. You make it sound like any other company does it differently.

    i love nhl08, my favorite hockey title of all time except nhl94, i think thats the year, well it was a long f'in time ago.

    but they need to add more substance into the game besides a straight up hockey game. MINIGAMES BABY!!!

    NHL 08 was the best game so far. It seems that EA is moving towards realism and the way they did that with 08 was amasing. Hope they build on that with 09. Defensive skill stick looks interesting. I guess players like Datsyuk will shine in 09, steeling pucks from frustrated attackers.

    My friend worked on NHL 09....said the graphics look a lot better and right now they are trying to get the xbox 360 and ps3 versions to run similar at 60 fps

    How about a online demo this year EA? Oh wait, you can't do that! Everyone will know how crappy your servers are before buying the game...

    The graphics look really nice for NHL but they need to add dust and some ice spatter from the skates. a lil DoP too surprisingly all the EA sports games are getting really nice...save for madden..

    psn id: gingo.... @DaveW.... i know its the same for take two with their 2k range but it feels like there is no reason to buy the next years addition of the game, they may aswell just release yearly squad updates until they have improved the game enough both graphically and gameplay wise to merit the $60 price

    I LOVE EA's NHL games, their fun and I disagree with people who say it hasnt improved besides graphics because I think the gameplay has gotten better every year and love what they do each year! I don't mind EA even though everybody else doesn't like a thing they do, they still make my favorite games!

    The graphics looks just a little improved from 08. I hope they change the gameplay a bit. I'm getting bored with 08 now. I want something new! Anyone know when it's going to be out?

    @gringo

    You do realize that EA has made a lot of big changes to their gameplay over the last 3-4 years.  Now this year they are introducing the defencive skill stick.  I didn't buy 07, because I wasn't happy with the orginal attempt at the skill stick but their was some great improvements in 08.  I would like now a way to imput your own controlls, but I was impressed all the same.  Its kinda neat that they are introducing a defensive skill stick now, especially since all last year I complained about how the defence and hitting just wasn't as nice as it could have been.

    no i think theres a defensemen team who barely made the playoffs...
