First in-game MAG screenshot released, analyzed

Although it's fairly early on in the development cycle, if MAG can produce graphics on par with those displayed in the screenshot below whilst providing a stable connection for up to 256 players, that would be beyond amazing. Fortunately, Zipper seems up to the challenge. I present the first real-time screenshot from Massive Action Game.

So here's what this screenshot reveals about MAG. As hinted on in the CG trailer, players will be able to drop out aircrafts and parachute to safety. Obviously, they can be shot down while doing so, as the opposing squad here is attempting to do. The screen also leads me to believe that there won't be a cover system. If you take a look at the guy on the right, he doesn't quite seem 'attached' to the wall. This is just a guess though - I'll try to niggle some official details on that from Zipper soon.
Tech-wise, the lighting and shadowing systems look spot on. If you again glance on the combatant of the right side of the screenshot, his shadow looks soft yet accurate on the wall beside him. In the background, the building seems to reflect the hazy color of the vivid sky.
MAG is scheduled for release exclusively for the PlayStation 3 sometime in 2009.

Im gonna be 99.9% sure there wont be a cover system which is good thing becuase of how well the socom games in the past played without one.
But for a first screen it looks really great.

Early in the development cycle? Id say year 3 out of 4 is pretty damn far in (assuming it comes out in '09).
Looks slick though. So far this is a day 1 buy for me.

Think there is cover system, or i hope there is. Anyways i dont think it will be the kind of game that puts much effors to what single player can do in terms of movements and tactic, but more like squad based action to the next level game.

So now I wonder Is Zipper still working on the next Socom singleplayer game? this HAS to be taking up huge resources in the company to develop... and it's gotta be a headache for those making the multiplayer Socom game too because it's like their game will be obsolete so soon.

I'm really exited about this game, but I'm not gonna get too excited. They can make great graphics, and make it where you can play 256 players online, but they can easily make the mistake so many potentially great shooters have made in the past and not figure out how to make it fun. By making it fun I mean, not die as soon as you spawn, it doesn’t take a million shots to kill people, it doesn’t turn into a massive nade war, the sides are even on all maps, etc. I mean, I love nice graphics, but a game should be fun and playable first before you worry about graphics. Slapping some glitter on a turd might make it look prettier than it already is, but it's still a turd. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not putting down the game before they’ve barely even started on it, I’m just trying to keep everyone grounded. They said they’re breaking people into squads, so hopefully that will help it be more fun and prevent some of the gameplay issues a huge game like this might cause. BTW, is this gonna be a first person shooter, a third person shooter, or both?

Why does the word "niggle" make him sick? You know what the word means?
If they wanna show us "In-Game" screens, let's see the HUD and the real point of view from the players perspective. Don't piss on my leg and tells me it's raining. HAHA.
P.S. Keep EA away from this game.

"Don't piss on my leg, and tell me it's rainning."
Best saying ever.
