Well it seems that Fox will be the first to put out a Blu-ray disc with picture in picture, this January.
While this may not seem like such big news, it actually is. HD DVD has had a few titles release with PIP, giving the format a heads up to movie enthusiasts. Also, it has confused many as to why Blu-ray, with much more disc space, couldn't do something as simple as showing two videos on screen at once.
Well that will all change soon.
In the next few months, Blu-ray will be getting its specifications. In this update, compatible Blu-ray players, including the PlayStation 3, will be able at access new features such as PIP, online access, and other Java support.
Sunshine, a sci-fi thriller from Fox Entertainment will release on Blu-ray with support for PIP, the first to do so. Hopefully it won't be long until other major studios jump on the bandwagon and start releasing titles with more features too.
Stay tuned for all the latest Blu-ray news.

Jee wiz a pip.... we get a pip - woopy doody.
I hope the PS3 gets an update soon to include profile 1.1 otherwise we are going to have issues. Earlier this month there was some report that SOny had said there would be an update soon to further enhance BD playback on the PS3. Has anyone actually seen any further proof that this is coming before 10-31-2007 which is tomorrow..???
psn id: gingo.... PIP sounds pretty cool i'll have to give that a try if i get a blu ray that allows it
It is greeat news, but not sure if I will ever use it. I am not buying the movie for PIP ability, but for the MOVIE.
I've never heard of this movie until today. Apparently the trailer forit was released with the D.O.A. movie which lasted about ten minutes in theaters. Apparently it's a fairly good movie although one with tradgic moments for some or all of the characters at one point or another. A serious dramatic Scifi movie. I spposed if the trailer hadn't been saddled with a dog like D.O.A. maybe we would have heard more about it.
As for PiP, while it's not especially a deal deal that it comes with this particular movie, what it DOES mean is that there's finaly NOTHING that HDdvd can claim to have over BluRay and means we ca finally start putting the last few nails in the coffin of the compeating format.
Thats pretty cool, never seen that.
I don't see the point with pip? when watching a movie, what reason would you need to enable pip?
Thanks admins for finally banning thisdude86.
Anyway, I never saw the point in PIP. It could potentially degrade movie making quality if you show from 2 angles and don't have to choose the best one.
Do the admins actually exist? This site seems very unattended.
All signs are pointing to FW 2.00 coming very soon
