Free Radical talks about Haze delay

Posted on January 12th, 2008 at 13:17 EDT

Free Radical decided to address the issue of the reoccurring Haze delays. They’ve also decided to mention a bit more info on what is going on with their hit-series TimeSplitters as well. Obviously, we, as gamers, dislike delays and would rather just play the game, but let’s be honest. If they released it now full of issues the backlash would be immense. So let’s just sit back and enjoy what’s to come.

The following is an excerpt on what Free Radical had to say on the issue.

“Soooo, Haze is delayed. But you already know that, don't you. Well, the simple fact of the matter is, any delay on a game is a good thing - it's more time to optimize and polish and tweak and generally improve the whole damn thing to the Nth degree. Now, I know that some of you patient folks out there will be bitterly disappointed. Some of you may even want to come to my house and smash a colostomy bag over my head, and I think most people would understand that sentiment, but believe when I say that the delay is the best possible thing for the game. Hell, the reason why you guys are so pumped about it is because you have high expectations, and we need just a little more time to make sure that we meet them. So in conclusion, rest easy - we're still slugging away on this badboy.

In other news, this week has seen several drafts and redrafts of the TimeSplitters 4 story outline being pulled around to see what sticks. As of today we might - MIGHT - have settled on something. Time will tell.”

As you can clearly see, they’re trying to make sure the game lives up not only to the hype we have given it, but to your expectations as well. Everyone on all fronts wants this game to be everything it could be and more. We’ll also try and stay updated on any possible TimeSplitters 4 information.

I just hope that they do a good job on the game because it's gonna be awesome, we'll just have to wait a little longer to get our hands on it!

What the heck kind of info did haze give? Did they get this info from that doofus in the haze walk through videos? The guy that seems like he should be in a dark comedy club, rather than taking us around the haze studio with a camera guy? Tell us more! Tell us what you are doing to make the game better, not just say some random word to describe the delay as "polishing". Tell us, we are wait!!!!!!

Well, since they missed the holiday season, there's no rush. I think they MUST make this game darn near perfect if not completely perfect so take all the time they need. Especially since the game has gone exclusive to the PS3 it needs to be perfect. At this point with all the games out there to play I'm looking forward a LOT to Haze, but I want it to be great so I'll wait.

I don't know about this game. It seems to be just another shooter...

I'm actually really looking forward to this game.  It just seems more "vibrant" for an FPS...there are too many "dark & gloomy" shooters now days.  Haze just seems to be brighter.  Looks like a lot of fun to me and the vehicles look wicked.

I'm down for the vibrance and great-sounding multi player. I really want a game that will have a 2 player co-op and 4-player splitscreen vs. Hopefully this one will be it.

Delays don't bother me, from a business stand point it can only be a good thing.  At least their not pushing out a glitchy game like the Assassin's Creed developers.

Hey, delays are good. The game is going to be just as good has killzone (if not, better!) I can wait. They can take there time for all I care as long the game is going to be amazing.

YEah yeah yeah. And they also wanna make sure that there is enough PS3's sold and in homes for them to sell a certain amount of copies in a certain period of time too? Right?

This game was guarenteed gold, if not Platinum Status in 07, but I fear with games like Killzone, MGS4, Resistance 2, and not to mention the killer 3rd party games, this masterpiece might fall under the radar and go unnoticed. I hope it doesn't, but it's a possibility.

I wonder if this has to do with being a PS3 exclusive now. Maybe they are now optimizing and adding more as they dont have to worry about porting.

hey the truth hurts! so just deal with it and wait for the game to come out. then if it suck, then let your anger out on the development team. lol

Take all the time you need , I would rather have a good quality game that took ages to make then something rushed, full of bugs and just plain crap

as long as its out 4+months before kz2 and r2 then i'll be happy. i don't like having a glut of fps on the market at the same time like last year with ut3, cod4, and ob.

Thats exactly what I said in my last post on the Haze subject. Expectation levels have been pumped up by the developer / publisher so the developer / publisher has to meet those promisses.

In my mind this must match the review scores of COD4, Bioshock otherwise its all hype. From this point of view its better they get this polished than to meet deadlines for release. Make it incredible guys -we are all expecting it to be nothing less.

this game doesn't really matter to me. MGS4 does. if that takes another delay i don't know how i'd react

This is all BS. Its all about marketing now, they know they've missed the holiday season and people are generally short of cash this time of year. After all the hype they need this game to do well, thats why they're going for a March release.

this is a bitter pile to chew, nevertheless i want FREE RADICAL to make somethng big out of this game, so they should take the time they need and make sure that the next release date they issue should be respected.
